During the Blog Tour on Monday I showcased a card featuring the Cracked Glass Technique. I received many comments on this card and I wanted to share the technique with you.
The key is to use the Glassy Glaze Enamel Embossing Powder. Which is a thick clear embossing powder and creates a look like glass. If you have the correct supplies it is easy and just requires some wait time to achieve the look of cracked glass.
Cracked Glass Technique:
Here are the basic instructions:
- Stamp your image and color as desired on card stock. Cut or punch to the finished size.
- Apply VersaMark ink over the entire piece of card stock.
- Place the card stock inside the Powder Pal and cover the entire piece with Glassy Glaze Enamel Embossing Powder.
- Tap off excess powder. Use a heat tool to heat the powder until it has melted. I use the tip of my craft tweezers to hold the card stock still while I heat it.
- Add another layer of VersaMark ink and Glassy Glaze Enamel and heat again. It should begin to look like a thick layer of glass.
- Add a third layer and if desired add a fourth layer. I normally do three layers.
- After all the layers have been added place the card stock in the freezer to cool completely. The card stock may curl a bit while it is cooling – that is ok.
Remove the card stock from the freezer and bend it until it cracks – bend and crack until you get the look that you want.- To give it a more aged look sponge a dark color ink over the image allowing ink to get into the cracks.
- Clean away any excess ink from the glass with a paper towel.
- Add image to your card or scrapbook page and complete your project.
Here is aother sample that I made a couple of years ago. These stamp sets are now retired. I stamped the image and colored it with markers before adding the cracked glass over the top.
Thanks for visiting.
I am trying to finish a bunch of stuff today before I go tomorrow to our group retreat for the weekend. It should be alot of fun – everyone attending is preparing a project to share. So we prep our project for everyone and then over the weekend we will make all the projects and come home with lots of new ideas! I also have to make swaps – Yikes! I haven’t even started those but did come up with my idea last night as I went to sleep – luckily I still remember what it was!!
I’m also planning to have the May Wow Scrapbook Kit out tomorrow morning – so check out our blog at wowscrapbookkits.wordpress.com – for the new kit.
I’m planning a quick class for next week – a Mother’s Day Mini Class – I’m hoping to get that email out later today.
My May newsletter will go out probably on Sunday so if you are on my email list for my newsletter look for that.
Check back for information about another Blog Tour in May – I have signed up for a different group and need to decide what stamp set I am going to showcase.
And I’m sure I have other things that I can’t think of right now. I had a long list yesterday so that I wouldn’t forget anything.
Thanks for stopping by!

Apr 29, 2009 | Circle Scissor Plus, Designer Series Paper, Occasions Mini 2009, SU Buttons, Wildlife |
I am mailing out the Corduroy Button Share today. I had them packaged a couple of days ago but I wanted to make them cute – so I took some time yesterday and came up with a great idea!
I always save all of my little plastic containers that the buttons, brads and other accessories come in. I’m sure they are useful for something. I used up all the Corduroy button containers for sorting the share and then decided to decorate them. I peeled off the labels – some came off easily while others didn’t – so I heat them for a few seconds with the heat tool and then they come off. But if some of the sticky stays that’s ok because I’m covering it back up anyway.
I used the Circle Scissor Plus to cut a 2″ circle from the Pacific Point card stock. Then used my 1-3/4″ circle punch to punch circles from the Good Morning Sunshine Designer Series Paper. I attached those to the lid of the container. Closed it up and tied a piece of Pacific Point striped ribbon around it.
Then I stamped “for you” from the Great Friend stamp set in the Occasions Mini Catalog in Pacific Point ink on Whisper White. Stamp the leaf image in Kiwi Kiss. Then punch out with the Large Oval Punch. I used the new Scallop Oval Punch to punch out Pacific Point card stock and layer behind my large oval. Punch a small hole in one end with the 1/16″ handheld punch and tie a piece of Linen Thread throught to attach it to the ribbon.
You could use these little containers to hold various little treats and gifts and decorate to suit your occasion. If you were part of the share or won my blog candy during the tour yours will be on the way to you shortly.
And a quick bird update – yesterday the Towhee left his nest. I can still hear them calling so they are probably still around. My book says they have 2 broods per year, but I’m not sure if they use the same nest or build a new one. I’ll go back and remove the eggs that didn’t incubate soon.
The robins left this morning. I let Magnolia out earlier and happened to see the 2nd baby perched on the
downspout ready to fly. The other one had already left the nest earlier this morning. I ran inside to get my camera and take one last picture of this little guy. We were almost late for school – oops! When I got back home he was gone. Robins have 2-3 broods per year. Again I don’t know if they reuse the same nest. I’ll have to figure that out. I want to get a ladder and see if any eggs were left behind.
The bluebirds and chickadees are still feeding. I think they still have a few more days probably over the weekend or the first of next week before they are ready to go.
I have lots to do today – so I’m headed to the craft room now. I’m hoping to get the tutorial for the cracked glass posted tomorrow. So visit me again.
Have a great day!

Welcome to the Mini Occasions Blog Tour!
You have just hopped on Tour 4 at Stop #16. Enjoy viewing my samples using the “Sense of Time” stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalog. I have been working on these samples over the last week or so and I’m pleased with the results. At the end of my post you will be linked to the next stop on the tour – you will be headed to Canada!
My first sample is a little suitcase – this set reminds me of something old fashioned and since I had travel on my mind I came up with this cute little suitcase idea. This would make a cute little treat box to give someone getting ready to go on a trip or use it for Father’s Day.
Supplies:
- Sense of Time stamp set
- Chocolate Chip card stock
- Very Vanilla card stock
- Chocolate Chip Classic ink
- Big Shot Die-Cut Machine
- Bigz XL Box #2 die
- Ticket Corner punch
- Paper Piercer
- 5/8″ Chocolate Chip Grosgrain ribbon
- 5/16″ Jumbo Brads – Very Vanilla
- Stampin’ Sponge
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
- Sticky Strip
This next project is one that I made for the Principal at my sons school. He is leaving the school this year to go to one of the new schools in the county and the PTA wanted to give him a going away gift. I made a similar gift for the High School Band seniors last year and thought this would work for this as well. It is a scrapbook tin. Inside the tin is an accordion fold scrapbook containing pictures from various events at the school. When you open the tin the accordion album lifts out and has pictures on both sides. Inside the lid is a place for the PTA officers to write a personal note to the Principal. I hope it is a gift that he will enjoy. You could create a tin like this to give as a father’s day gift or to hold memories from a trip. Since it is a tin you can add 3-d items that you might not be able to include in a traditional scrapbook.
Supplies:
- Sense of Time stamp set
- Always Artichoke card stock
- Kraft card stock
- Baja Breeze card stock
- Very Vanilla card stock
- Always Artichoke classic ink
- Versamark ink
- Manchester Designer Series paper
- Sticky Strip
- Circle Scissor Plus & Glass Mat
- Big Shot Die-cut Machine
- Billboard Alphabet Sizzlits Die
- Twill Tape
- Vintage Brads
- Corner Rounder Punch
- Cutter Kit
My last project is a card I made last night. I knew there was something I wanted to do with this clock and it just wasn’t coming to my mind so I had been hesitating on creating my last sample. Finally last night as I played around with different ideas and it came to me – CRACKED GLASS TECHNIQUE! It was the perfect thing to do with this stamp set – yet another way to give it an old-fashioned look.

I used the new Circle Scissor Plus to cut the circles out for the project and for the tin. It takes some getting used to but once you get the hang of it you can go crazy creating all different sized circles.
Here is a close up so you can see the detail of the cracked glass technique on the clock image. It is much easier to see in person than it is on these photos.
Supplies:
- Sense of Time stamp set
- Kiwi Kiss card stock

I bought the Forest Friends stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalog because I thought the animals were just so cute. I have been wanting to use but have been busy with other things so I haven’t even had a chance to put it together. But I finally did today! And I made the cutestest project!
I wanted to use one of the Mini Note Kits that you can get for free this month. I got mine in my last order and had it waiting to be used to. So I combined the two and here is my project.
The Mini Note Kit – Birthdays Count – comes with a double-mounted stamp, 4 note cards with envelopes, and a Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Spot. You can get it free if you order $40 from the Occasions Mini Catalog. Ask me if you want more details.
I made a little box out of Chocolate Chip card stock and then wrapped it with a piece of Designer Series Paper – the Walk in the Park paper from the Occasions Mini Catalog. Then I tied a piece of the double-stitched Chocolate Chip Grosgrain ribbon through a white Jumbo Grommet – also in the Occasions Mini Catalog. I cut out the little bunny and added him to the front with dimensionals. I made the four note cards by adding a piece of Designer Series Paper – the same paper that I wrapped around the box. Then added each of the four images from the Forest Friends set – one to each card. I stamped Happy Birthday from the Birthdays Count Mini Note Kit on the front of each card and the other stamp which has a saying “The Secret of Happiness is to Count You Blessings, Not Your Birthdays.” on the inside of each notecard.
Here is a picture of the whole set and a list of all the supplies that I used:
Supplies:
- Forest Friends stamp set

- Birthdays Count Mini Note Kit – gift notes and envelopes and Chocolate Chip Classic ink
- Chocolate Chip card stock
- Whisper White card stock
- Walk in the Park Designer Series Paper
- Basic Jumbo Grommets
- Double Stitched Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon
- 1-3/4″ circle punch
- 1-3/8″ circle punch
- Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you like it!
Remember to hop on the Blog Tour on Monday, April 27th by visiting my blog. You’ll get to see more ideas using the Forest Friends stamp set and Walk in the Park Designer Series Paper when you are on the tour.
We have storms – lightening and thunder are all around – I’m going to get off the computer now. Be safe and have a nice evening!
