Arrows Challenge Completed!

Every Tuesday night a group of us get together to work and play with our My Digital Studio software.  It’s our Digi Crop night and we have so much fun every week.  If you live near me and want to join us let me know – the dates and events are posted on my facebook business page – Stamping Together at Monika’s Place – we will meet twice in July and then get back to weekly in August.  Last night Cindy extended a challenge to us – to complete a project and submit it for the Stampin’ Up! Arrow challenge.  While I played around with a card during our crop all that I could really think of was when the boys were in scouts and would go to camp and learn about Archery.  Arrows = Archery!  So after the crop I went home to see if I could find some pictures from when the boys were in scouts and see if I had any from them while they were at the Archery station at camp.  I had to go back to 2004!  But yeah success and I got to work creating a scrapbook page featuring arrows for the challenge.  Yeah me – challenge completed!

2013 Family Book-008These are pictures of Ryan and Cub Scout Day camp in June 2004.  He would have been a rising 2nd grader (if I counted correctly) – he will be a senior in high school this fall.  I did start with a template page – it was from the Fan Fair photobook template – but doesn’t really look anything like it – I kept only the photo frames and the label for the text block.  Everything else I changed.  Since I could find exactly what I wanted for a designer paper I decided to use something rather plain (Downtown Grunge 1) and used stamps to create a custom background paper.  Can you see all the little arrows in the background?  I used arrows from the Hello There Kit – the color is Very Vanilla and then the Opacity is set to 20%.

Other arrows on the page are The Best Year arrows and I used the coloring tool to color each section to look like the target in the photos. And the arrow pointing to my little archer is from Epic Overlays.

I’m posting the page over in the challenge on MyDigitalStudio.net be sure to stop over there and like and comment on my page – maybe I can win the challenge!  That would be exciting.  And if you want some more My Digital Studio inspiration Cindy and some other digital designers have a blog hop going on today – go here.

Have a great day!

More Travels

reichtag layout

One more layout from my book for the Germany trip.  This layout is from our tour of the Reichstag – Germany’s Parliament building.  We went through security and then with a group into the building.  Rode up the elevator and on to the roof.  You could see across the city.  One thing that I noticed was how many cranes there were along the skyline.  In Berlin there is so much construction going on it is unbelievable.  Then we walked around the spiral walkway to the top of the clear dome.  At the top we sat on the bench in the center and laid back to look out the hole in the top.

The Journey

In May I took a trip with my parents and brother to Germany last month and I’m working on documenting our trip using My Digital Studio.  I kept notes in a journal, and kept brochures and tickets, etc from the trip.  I started working on it while I was on the trip but didn’t get anywhere close to what I thought done.  Partially because some days I was tired and ready for bed when I got back in the evening and partially because we did so much!  I thought I would share some of the pages with you this week.

I decided to use one of the Stampin’ Up! Digital Templates for this book – and since I knew I would have lots of pictures I choose one that used lots of pictures on each page – The Best Year Photobook Template.  The template is set up to have a two page spread for each month of the year.  It looks like this –

jan layout

Mine is a layout for each day/activity – this first layout is from our journey over the ocean – our flights – from Atlanta to Amsterdam and then on to Berlin – and our arrival.

Germany 2013-004This is the left page and I kept the layout pretty much the same – but I changed the top left section to reflect our trip rather than the month of the year.  The strip at the bottom has the exact date and in the top corner – I was adding modes of transportation that we took that day.   On some I changed the paper fill in the punch.

Germany 2013-005For the right page I changed a few of the decorative pages to photo boxes.  In most cases I removed any embellishments that were over-layed on the photo boxes.

The trip there was long and I didn’t get much sleep on the flight and basically at the time we were arriving was the time I would have been going to bed at home.  So I was a very tired traveler once we arrived.

I hope you can see how the templates are flexible and you don’t need to use the as they were designed.  In fact – the original template is actually a 12″ x 12″ photobook and I converted it to an 8″ x 8″ book for my project.  I’ll be printing 4 of them when I’m done.  One for my parents, one for my brother, one for my Uncle, and one for myself.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Fire Pit Fun

One of my favorite parts of the Stamp, Scrap & Create Retreat weekend was Saturday night when we hung out around the fire pit.  A fire, smores, talking, laughing, and dancing with friends!

fire-fun-layout

I used a digital template from My Digital Studio – called Back to School.  I duplicate the column of photo boxes until I had enough for all my pictures.  Changed the title added journaling, deleted a few elements that were school related that I didn’t want and added a couple of others and I was done.

If you’d like to learn more about My Digital Studio and you live in my area come join me for an Intro class this Friday night.  You can find Details on my website Events page or on my Facebook page.  The software is such a great deal for only $19.95 but if you aren’t sure you can try a 30-day trial for free.  Come see what this thing can do – it will really expand your creative world!
