Almost Artisan – Summer Smooches Card

This should be card number 5 from my Stampin’ Up! Artisan Design Team entry.  And it was literally the very last thing I made before I mailed my entry in.  In fact I had a different card ready to go and then when I was preparing for my scrapbook class that week this idea crept in and I made it in the morning right before mailing in my entry.  My creative juices sometimes flow better at the last minute….

I like how this card turned out fun and bright.  This one is 6×3 that I submitted to the contest.  I made some more of these as 5-1/2 x 4-1/4 cards for my Starz team swap today.  There are 3 columns of squares on those instead of 2 columns like this one.

I came up with the cross-stitch idea one night while working on a scrapbook page – I realized the ribbon border punch made the perfect base to pull the Baker’s Twine through for a cross-stitch effect.  The colors are bright in the Summer Smooch Designer Paper – Daffodil Delight, Real Red, Lucky Limeade, Island Indigo – there are a few more in there but those were the main ones that I used.  Here is a view of the inside of the card.

I hope you like it!

Animal Talk Window Card

When I saw the Animal Talk stamp set in the new Stampin’ Up! catalog I thought it was really cute.  It was in my first order and I’ve been using it in my classes this month.  I call this one a window card because there is a hole punched through the top layer and you see the stamped image on the second layer through the “window”.  I thought this would be a fun style with this set since there was an image stamp and a corresponding phrase stamp with each image.

I also got to use the new Piercing Templates – I know I’m going to love those.  I used our largest circle punch which just happens to match the largest piercing circle on the template – its a “perfect match” – like they say in the Haverty’s commercial.   There are a couple of other new things on this card – the Polka Dot Parade Designer Series Paper – this is a fun paper pack and I know I’m going to use it a lot.  And the 1/4″ stitched ribbon in Early Espresso.

I hope you like it. I’m planning to make a whole set using the different images/phrases in the Animal Talk stamp set and making them for convention swaps – so I probably won’t share the rest until convention.

Did you see the thermometer?  It’s rising!  I’m almost at the top.  The thermometer show the orders that I have already placed.  Then I have a hand full of people to follow up with that said they would order.  If they all come through with a $55 order that should put me within about $800 of earning the Get-a-way trip!  So I only need to find a few more people this week – it’s going to happen – I can feel it.  Yippee!  If your not sure what I’m talking about then read here.

Cindy and I are having our make up class for the My Digital Studio Club today.  Saturday’s class was lots of fun and today’s will be too.

I hope you do something fun today!

Using a Sketch

I do like to use sketches to create a card or scrapbook page.  Recently I made a card using one of the sketches from Create with Connie & Mary – it is an older one from a few weeks ago.  The card I ended up with looks like this

I used the new In-Color Primrose Petals for the base, then a layer of Chocolate Chip – I cut it with the Scallop Edgelit and embosses it with the matching Accent Folder – actually I did the embossing part first and then cut – that is easier for me to get it lined up.  You can’t see it real well in the photo but I used the set Creative Elements to stamp in the background behind the flower.

The flower is cut from the Floral District Designer paper – I used the Fun Flowers Bigz Die and the Big Shot for the largest petals, the smaller petals are the blossom punch – 3 layers and then I snipped in between the little scallops on the petals.  In the center is one of the new Naturals Designer Buttons – they look like wood – I threaded some Linen Thread through the holes.  And tied some around the card layer – I love my Linen thread.

Finally I added a tag – stamp set Four Frames and Teeny Tiny Wishes – punches with the Decorative Label punch.

here is what the sketch looked like –

A sketch is a good place to start when you are creating – it maps out where to place your elements.  Then you play around with your design, your stamp sets, your papers and punches until you get something in the end that you are happy with.

I have more people to thank for placing orders – Debbie, Sherrie, Alicia, Candis, and Pam.  Every order helps me get closer no matter what size it is.  Thank you guys!  I speeding along to 55 orders –  Read more here.

Today was an animal kind of day – I came home from exercising and found a turtle in the road right near the house.  I didn’t want him to get run over so I went out to get him and move him on across the street.  Well he was not happy about that – did you know turtles make a hissing sound?  I moved him anyway so a car wouldn’t run him over. Then I keep hearing banging on the window – and Aspen hears it to and goes and barks – its a bluebird – I’m wondering if he is trying to get bugs from the spider webs that are in the corner of the windows – there are lots of them – I guess I need to do something about that but spraying them with a hose doesn’t really get them to come off.  Then I began to wonder if the bluebirds built another nest in the bird house – so I decided to check. Sure enough they built a nest while we were gone on vacation and when I checked this morning – guess what – there are 3 eggs inside!  I don’t think I have had a nest this late before – spring is over and summer is here now.  Oh and one more thing – there were a bunch of robins in the yard today – and I noticed a little moth flitting about – the moth landed on the fern near one of the robins – the robins popped up and snatched it and had a yummy breakfast.  Poor moth.  Anyway those are my animal stories for today.

Have a great day!

Made with Love

Hi all – I’m coming along steadily with my goal of 55  $55 orders by June 30th.  I have the little thermometer on my sidebar if you want to watch it rise each day.  Thank you SO MUCH to everyone that has already placed and order and to those that are planning to place orders in the coming days.  I’m getting more excited with every email and order that comes in!

Here is a quick post for you today – another scrapbook layout that I made last month – this one was based on a layout in the last catalog – I think the picture in the catalog was an 8-1/2 x 11 layout and I modified it to be a 2-page 12×12 layout.

The Designer paper is now retired but you could use whatever paper that you have and create this same layout.  I just cut it into pieces most are 3×3 and a few are 3×2.  The background is Basic Gray and then the designer paper is attached to Crumb Cake.  I added Pool Party accents on either side.  The title is also in Crumb Cake so it is very subtle.  I popped up the heart with Dimensionals.  Some other options would be to make the title in one of the other colors or pop it up off the page, even just sponging the edges or outlining them would make the title stand out more.  I did distress the top and bottom edge of all the Designer Paper pieces using the Distress Tool – which also retired – darn it.  But you can use your paper snips and get a similar effect or even your finger nail (maybe not if you just had a manicure – that would get messed up).

I’m anxiously awaiting a call from Stampin’ Up! this week too – I submitted for the Artisan Design Team and they are supposed to be calling all the finalists this week – I hope I receive a call.  I wonder how many submissions they received?

Talk to you later…

Summer Smooch

The new Stampin’ Up! catalog is here and I have placed orders for my Stamper’s Club, my Open House guests and myself.  I can’t wait for UPS to come later this week to deliver all the fun new stuff.  Remember the sneak peek we got a couple of months ago – the Summer Smooches Suite – well its back and featured in the new catalog on Pages 80 and 81.  It is so very bright and cheerful.  Here is a card idea – I got the “sketch” (the layout) from somewhere online so it may look familiar.

The background is Real Red, then there are strips of Lucky Limeade and circles on the end of each strip.  There is a strip of the Summer Smooches Designer Series paper on each and then a stamped circle using the Bright Blossoms stamp set.  Each flower has a mini silver brad in it and the card is finished with a piece of the Daffodil Delight Seam Binding.

This card will be part of my Card Maker’s Club so come join me at the end of the month if you would like to make one.

My Open House yesterday was lots of fun and so was Stamper’s Club on Friday night.  I have to get pictures of all the projects so I can post this week.  I’m off to the post office to mail awards for the STARZ group and then to get Ryan from band practice – he made the drum line as a snare drummer this year – I’m very excited for him – he had tried out for this last year and didn’t get chosen, but this year he did.

Domestic Goddess Floral Fusion

So here is one more card for you for today – this one is a card idea from Mary Brown – that would be Mary from Create with Connie & Mary – I was on their design team a while back for some of their online classes.  The link should be in my side bar on my blog.  I know they are doing weekly challenges and I need to try to do some of those.  This was one of Mary’s cards for one of the challenges and I thought it was so cute.  I have just now started using the Domestic Goddess Designer Series paper and there is only one more day that you can order it from the catalog.  Why did I wait so long? Well I guess I should show you the card –

I always forget about the little Floral Fushion sizzlit die – and for a few dies I thought it was on the retiring list – but its not – phew….. but of course some of the other supplies used for this card are on the list – you have the rest of today and tomorrow to place an order from this catalog.  Then on Friday June 1st will be the transition to the new catalog – we can start ordering at 2 pm our time.
