Mar 21, 2013 | Big Shot, Cards, Create with Connie & Mary, Spring Catalog 2013, Thank You |
I’m wrapping up my stay with Create with Connie & Mary – I have just a couple more projects to share for the weekly challenge team. It has been fun and I’ve enjoyed seeing the creations every week. Thanks for letting me be part of the fun.
This week at Create with Connie & Mary we were issued a color challenge! Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist, and Not Quite Navy – they make me think of summer and water – so naturally I thought of the Oh, Whale! stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Spring catalog.

Now that I had my colors and knew I wanted to use the Oh, Whale stamp set I had to decide what to do with it. I have wanted for the last few months to make the little envelopes that are shown in the Sale-A-Bration brochure. I had many people ask how are those made. Well it’s really hard – you use the Big Shot and the Scallop Envelope Die and fold in the top, then the bottom, then one side and it’s done. Really – that easy! Not hard at all. The little envelope is just folded up so the decorative flap becomes one of the sides that is tucked in.

Here are the are some more details –
- Cut Daffodil Delight card stock with the scallop envelope die and the Big Shot. I went ahead and folded it all together the way I wanted to make the pocket. Then ran it through with the Cloudy Day embossing folder. Then I went back and added a little bit of Tomobow glue to hold it all shut – I guess I could have added that before embossing – but I didn’t do it that way.
- I stamped the whale in Not Quite Navy on Whisper White card stock and cut it out with the Happy Whale Clearlits die – isn’t it the cutest thing? I added a tiny silver mini brad for his eye.
- Tie a piece of the Marina Mist Striped Organdy Ribbon around the pocket then add the whale on with some dimensionals.
- I cut a piece of Marina Mist card stock to slide inside the pouch. I added a whale clip to the end of it. And on the card I added a little banner.

- The words are from the Oh, Whale stamp set and then cut with the Itty Bitty Banner framelits.
- Write a sweet little note and give it to someone special!
Visit the Create with Connie & Mary site to see the creations from the rest of the design team and to submit your own creation for this new challenge. I hope you will play along. Every week the top 3 are announced from each challenge – maybe this week it will be you!

- Accessories: Big Shot Die Cut machine, Itty Bitty Banner Framelits, Cloudy Day Embossing Folder, Scallop Envelope die, Happy Whale Clearlits Die, Mini Brads, Marina Mist Striped Organdy Ribbon, Elements Cute Clips
Enjoy this week’s projects and I’ll be back one more time for next’s week challenge. If I have an update on the Bluebird I’ll post that later.

Here is one more quick card using the Madison Avenue stamp set and a few other Sale-A-Bration items.
The Sycamore Street Designer Series paper was used along with the coordinating Madison Avenue stamp set and Vine Street Embossing folder.
This is a 4-1/4″ square card.
I used this card as an example during some new demonstrator training sessions. This would be easy to change to use the products you have on hand.
The base used here is Shimmery White card stock – but you can just as easily use Whisper White.
You could use a different embossing folder or not emboss it all.
Switch out the ribbon – the Sycamore Street ribbon would have worked here too.
The Fabulous Phrases stamp set that I used here has a ton of different words to choose from – but if you don’t have that one choose something you do have.
The stamped flowers were embossed with clear embossing powder and the heat tool – but you could stamp with just VersaMark ink or use the same color as the card stock.
Switch out the designer series paper – and then use matching card stock.
There are so many different ways to alter this little card you could have a whole stack and each one be different.
Oh and another picture to share with you – my bluebird is right on schedule – egg #3 arrived today –

Let’s see if she adds another one tomorrow!

Here is another idea with the Madison Avenue stamp set from the Stampin’ Up! Sale-A-Bration brochure.

I saw this idea on a blog from a demonstrator that lives in Germany. She has such a unique style that I really love. I thought this was a totally different look and way to use the Madison Avenue stamp set. The flower image is stamped twice in each color. Cut them out – one is the full flower and the other is the inside portion of the flower. Then curl them just a bit on the ends and glue them together. Add one of the new large Rhinestones in the center.
This is one of the little note cards – the come in a pack of 20 with matching envelopes. A little bit smaller than the size card I usually make. I spritzed the card and envelope with a Sahara Sand Stampin’ Write marker and the Color Spritzer. I added the stamped flowers and then punched some little flowers using the Itty Bitty Punch pack. Add small rhinestones in the center of those.
Add a greeting to the card. I used one from the Delightful Dozen stamp set. The colors I used are Pool Party, So Saffron and Cherry Cobbler. You could choose another combination of 3 colors. Or something you already have on hand. It’s a cute card and you could make a whole bunch using a pack of the note cards. Here is a look at what you could order for $50 so that you get the Madison Avenue stamp set for free –

Did you know you can make your stamps go a little bit further by using the Omitting Technique? Maybe you haven’t even heard of this. Well on this quick card that we saw at the Stampin’ Up! Leadership conference that is exactly what you’ll see.

The Omitting Technique is basically where you omit a portion of the stamp image by not putting any ink on it. The easiest way to do that is to use your Stampin’ Write Marker’s. On this card the stamp image from the Vintage Verses stamp set has the detailed frame with words in the center. Using the marker apply ink only to the frame and not the words, give it a little “huff” to make sure its all still moist and then stamp it on your paper.

It’s really that easy.
All the details of this quick card are right here:
- The card base is one of the Note Cards from the Note Cards & Envelopes in the main catalog – these are white and come with 20 cards and envelopes in each pack. They are 5″ x 3-1/2″ note cards with envelopes to fit.
- Ink up the stamp with the Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker applying ink only to the frame (“Omitting Technique”) and stamp on the front of the note card.
- Ink up the Thanks stamp with Jet Black StazOn ink and stamp over the frame.
- Punch two butterflies from Vellum Card stock using the Elegant Butterfly stamp. Stick them together with a glue dot and add to the front of the note card with another glue dot. Add a Rhinestone to the center (it cover’s the glue dot).
- Tie a piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine around the spine of the card.
- Done!
You can get the Vintage Versus stamp set for FREE during Sale-A-Bration when you purchase $50 in Stampin’ Up! products. So let’s see at what we have here –
Elegant Butterfly punch – $15.95
Rhinestone Basic Jewels – $4.95
Whisper White Baker’s Twine – $2.95
Note Cards & Envelopes – $5.95
Stampin’ Write Marker – $3.50
Vellum Card stock – $6.50
Staz On ink – $7.95
Mini Glue Dots – $4.95
That’s $52.70 – which is enough to get the Vintage Versus set for free – you can make 20 note cards. You’ll have plenty of everything else left – so buy an extra pack of note cards and you have 20 more. And you’ll still have enough of everything left to make lots more. Have you seen the new Petite Curly Label punch? It is the cutest and coordinates perfectly with the Pretty Petites stamp set from Sale-A-Bration and also with the Ciao, Baby! stamp set from the Spring Catalog. I really love this cute little punch and I have another Creation for this weeks challenge from Create with Connie & Mary .
This week is a new sketch challenge – and I have to admit – I was not very excited about this one. But I got through it and came up with a cute little card.

Trying to decide what to do with this sketch – I kept coming to the little Petite Curly Label punch. For the little sections I decide to use the Curly Label punch and use half pieces on the side. Here it is –

Here are some details on this card –
- card base is Summer Starfruit – 4-1/4″ square
- emboss with the Needlepoint Border Textured Impressions Folder
- Punch with the Curly Label punch from the Print Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack – punch 4 and cut 2 in half
- Stamp images from the Pretty Petites stamp set – I used Raspberry Ripple and Summer Starfruit
- Punch out with the Petite Curly Label punch and also punch some from coordinating card stock – turn the card stock punches in the opposite direction and glue behind the stamped ones – see how it creates a little frame on the top and bottom
- Punch a flower using the Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack. Crumple and add a mini silver brad to the center
- Add the flower to the frame image.
- Ta-da!
So what do you think? It turned out pretty cute – didn’t it. The stamp set and the punch are both available during Sale-A-Bration for free with a qualifying order. But in case you can’t get both or you have lots of others that you want – the punch will be available for sale after Sale-A-Bration ends.
Visit the Create with Connie & Mary site to see the creations from the rest of the design team and to submit your own creation for this new challenge. I hope you will play along with us this week – I’d love to see what you do with this sketch.
