UDI – Color Challenge 5

Welcome to week 5 of the weekly Color Challenge over at the Utah Diva’s International Blog.  Gretchen picked some bright spring colors this week.  At least I think they are very spring like.  I always start by pulling out the colors for the color challenge and putting those pieces of card stock on my craft table.  I had them out while I worked on other projects.  I didn’t have anything in mind so I just wanted to look at them for awhile.

I was working on another project with the Just Believe stamp set and the Butterflies from the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.   I decided the colors for the color challenge could be flowers or butterflies so I started rolling around different ideas in my head.  And this is what I came up with.

I pulled out my Stampin’ Pastels – I have the new box with all the new colors in it and I haven’t used them yet.  I stamped the large floral image from the Just Believe stamp set in VersaMark ink and then used the Stampin’ Pastels to color the image.  This technique is called “Poppin’ Pastels”.  I use qtips to add the color and it sticks to where you have the VersaMark ink making the image “pop”.

Then I cut butterflies with the Big Shot and the Beautiful Wings embosslit die.  I added those scattered around the flowers.  And then I added the little pearls to some of them.

The last thing I did was add some sparkle to the whole card.  You can’t really see it in the picture I took of the whole card.  So I took a close up while I held it up in the sunlight so you can see the fine sparkle that is all over the card.  I hope you can see it – it really sparkles.  I used an empty Stampin’ Mist bottle that I cleaned – I put some rubbing alcohol in it and mixed in some Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint.  Shake it up and it sprays out a fine shimmery mist over your card.    I did do this inside my Color Catcher so I won’t shimmer my craft table!

Now it is your turn to play with these colors – then go to the UDI blog and add your creation to the linky section.  I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Longfellows Regional Swaps

Today I have two of my card swaps that I took to the Baltimore Regional.  These both use the Level 2 Stampin’ Up! Hostess set called Longfellows.

I got this set because I thought the animals were fun and different from anything else that I had.  But once I had it here at home I couldn’t figure out exactly what to do with these long fellows!

This design works well and I plan to make cards with the rest of the gang.  I used the dog in my pets class (and the cat).  And here is my turtle version.  The Old Olive Designer Paper is from the Plate Date paper pack.

I made a new version of the cat card using Cajun Craze as my main color.  The Designer paper on this one is the Wicked Fun specialty paper.  This one is fun because the black circles are flocked so they have texture.

The animals are stamped with Jet Black StazOn Ink and then water colored with an aquapainter and classic ink.

Now I need to do the whale, the elephant and the alligator and I’ll have a complete set.

My 12 weeks of Christmas Newsletter went out earlier this week.  I sent out week 1 on Wednesday and got it out to most of the people that signed up on Thursday.  I’m going to finish sending week 1 to those that signed up on Thursday.  The next one will go out next week Wednesday.

Monika’s Blog Bingo continues – I heard several people at the regional tell me how much fun they thought it was.  I’m glad everyone thinks so!  So let’s play….

It’s BINGO TIME!  We are playing Round 4 of Monika’s Blog Bingo.  I’m currently taking names for Round 6 – I only have a couple of spots left.   See this POST for more details on how to join, how to play and the Round 1, 2, and 3 winners.  Is anyone getting close yet?

Here is piece #11  –the alphabet from Cute by the Inch stamp set (stamped in Poppy Parade).

Longfellows cards

Hi everyone!  Today is Sunday and I am on my way back home tonight from a trip to Virginia and Maryland.  I went to visit my sister-in-law and on Friday we went to the Baltimore Regional.  We had a great time!  We saw lots of great WOW demonstrations which I’ll tell you more about later.  The Make&Takes were all great and I’ll share those with you too.  When I get home I can download all my pictures and share all of those things.

For today I’m going to share some of the cards we made in my Love Your Pets class.  These two cards use the Stampin’ Up! Level 2 Hostess Stamp Set called Longfellows.  These are quick and simple cards and I made some more for my regional swaps using different images.  I think now I’ll go back and make a whole set using all the images that are included.

The front is pretty basic with a piece of Designer Series Paper on one side, the image stamped in Jet Black StazOn ink and watercolored, then layered on a piece of Crumb Cake (I keep writing Kraft and then deleting to correct it) that was scallopped on one side.

On the inside I stamped just the front and back of the dog (or the cat) on each edge of the card.  I should have added a matching sentiment on the inside but I didn’t think about that.

The front also has the little Bitty Button thread with some Linen Thread.

If you were looking for a great idea with this stamp set – I hope you like this one!  And now let’s move on to Bingo…..

It’s BINGO TIME!  We are playing Round 4 of Monika’s Blog Bingo.  I’m currently taking names for Round 6.   See this POST for more details on how to join, how to play and the Round 1, 2, and 3 winners.

Here is piece #6  –CREATE from the Charming stamp set (stamped in Peach Parfait).

Northern Flurry card

I just loved this card idea when I saw it shared by Lee Conrey a couple of weeks ago.  So super simple but elegant.  Here is a link to her original card – click here.

I made a color change for my card and used a Soft Suede card base and a Crumb Cake piece for the embossing.  This is the new Northern Flurry embossing folder in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday mini catalog.  Isn’t it gorgeous?

After I embossed it I used the Frost White Shimmer Paint and a Sponge Dauber to lightly add the frost shimmer to the embossed snowflake.

I punched a hole with my Crop-a-Dile – I used the smaller hole.  The ribbon is Early Espresso 3/8″ Taffeta ribbon – which is lighter than the actual Early Espresso color so it worked great on this card.  The greeting is from Sincere Salutations – which is one of my older stamp sets – I had this one long ago before I was a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator.  The final touch on this card are the Rhinestones in the center of each snowflake.  These are new in the Stampin’ Up! catalog and a lot of people are missing them because they aren’t easy to see in the catalog.  They are on page 188 under the section Jewels.  It lists both the Basic Rhinestones which is what I used here and the Basic Pearls (love those too).  These come on a sheet and are self-adhesive.  I use my paper piercer to carefully lift one off the sheet and place it on my project.  Each sheet has 3 sizes of Rhinestones or Pearls plus three strips or chains – where there are a bunch of the small ones already in a perfect row for you.  But if you don’t need them in a row you can seperate them and use them individually.

For this card I used all three sizes of the Rhinestones because I had three sizes of the snowflakes.  There is one in the center of each.

12 Weeks of Christmas Newsletter

The holidays are rapidly approaching and to help you with that, I am trying something new this year called the 12 Weeks of Christmas.

Do you need help with Holiday ideas?  Need idea for your Christmas cards or gifts?  Do you want some Holiday inspiration?

If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then say HELLO to the 12 Weeks of Christmas Newsletter.  This will be a weekly newsletter sent out on Wednesday’s starting October 6th.  Each Wednesday, the newsletter will contain a card or project (which will include hand made gift ideas, decorations, tags, and packaging).  You will get a picture of the project, a list of supplies used to create it and a brief description/instruction (if needed) for you to make this project.

Here is an example:

This card uses the Thumping technique to create the trees – I used this same technique earlier on a fall card.  For this example I inked my trees with Pear Pizzazz ink and then used Stampin’ Write markers in Wild Wasabi and Garden Green to thump the image before I stamped it on my paper.  I went back and added accents with the Smooch Pearlized Accent ink in Gold.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

  • Card stock: Wild Wasabi, Garden Green, Soft Suede,Whisper White
  • Ink: Pear Pizzazz, Soft Suede, Stampin’ Write Markers: Soft Suede, Garden Green Wild Wasabi
  • Stamp sets: Paisley Prints, Peaceful Season
  • Big Shot Die-Cut Machine, Square Lattice Textured Impressions Folder
  • Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink Gold Lame

The first issue will be released on October 6th and run for 12 weeks ending on December 22nd. These will not be posted on my blog or website – they will only be sent to those that are signed up for the 12 Weeks of Christmas Newsletter.  Anyone can sign up – CLICK HERE – fill in the information and click send to be added to my list.  If you can’t email this way then click under my picture where it says Contact Me and add it to the comments section and submit it there.  Thanks!

Here is piece #3  –the dog image from All in the Family stamp set (stamped in Chocolate Chip).

D is for Dog and C is for Cat

I’m back with my post for today – again sorry I didn’t get it up sooner – I wasn’t expecting to not have access last night.

This month my hands-on class was “Love Your Pets” and we focused on projects featuring cats and dogs. You might recall the dog and cat cards that I designed for our visit to the Ronald McDonald House – I decided to use that same card design for this class but step it up just a little bit.  Click here to see the RMHC post.

These cards use a Crumb Cake card base, a layer of Baja Breeze card stock and Elegant Soiree Designer Series paper.  The circles are cut with the Big Shot Die-cutting machine using the Circles #2 die.  The images are stamped in Soft Suede ink on the Very Vanilla circles.

For the Dog card I added Linen Thread around his collar.  The easiest way to do this is use a paper piercer to put a small hole at each side of the dog’s collar.  Then I use a floss threader – the kind your orthodontist or dentist gives you to help get floss through tight places or around braces – pull the linen thread through the hole with the threader and then tie in the front.

A peek at the inside – I had the paw prints “walking” around the inside of the card.

The cat card is basically the same layout but turned in the other direction.

For the cat I added a small rhinestone to her collar where the tag is on the stamped image.

And the linen thread around the collar.

Isn’t she a cute cat with her new fancy collar and tag?

I’m happy with how these cards turned out.  Next week I’ll be going to the Baltimore regional and I still need swaps so I’ve decided to make some more of these for my some of my swaps.

No  Bingo Winner emails yet – so its time to pull another Bingo piece – here we go…..
