Apr 25, 2011 | Cards, faux silk, Occasions Mini 2011, Vintage |
This beautiful card was one of the creations we made in my April Hands On Class. It uses the Nature Walk stamp set from the Occasions Mini Catalog and a technique called Faux Silk. This particular card design is from Sandy MacIver – she is a very creative demonstrator. Nature Walk is one of my favorite stamp sets and I’m hoping so much that it ends up in our next Idea Book & Catalog so I can keep using it for classes and clubs. I think it is so pretty that I bought the wood set so I could put it out on a shelf for decoration! I just love all the images in the set. So when I saw this design from Sandy I wanted to use it.
Other items from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog that I used are the Framed Tulips embossing folder, the Botanical Gazette Designer Series paper and the Cherry Cobbler seam binding. The Mini Catalog ends in just a few days so hurry if you would like to purchase any of these items. I do know that the embossing folder will continue to be available but not the other products. I always hate the end of a mini catalog – especially this one it had so many wonderful products in it – I only hope that is a sign of what’s to come in our new Idea Book.
I hope your Easter was wonderful – ours was just perfect. We were here with 32 family members and friends. We had great company, great weather and wonderful home cooked food. We had three tables set up in the new sunroom and it was perfect. This year we had a lot of different states represented – while most of the group was from all over Georgia – we also had some from Indiana, Florida, South Carolina, Louisiana, and even one from California. How fun to have us all together in one place.
Have a great week!

Apr 23, 2011 | Big Shot, Cards, Designer Series Paper, Occasions Mini 2011, Vintage |
This card has a variety of “techniques” on it. Quilting – using various pieces of Designer Series papers that have been pieced together like a quilt. Embossing – using the embossing folder over the quilted piece. Distressing – using the cutter kit on the outer embossed panel.
The card base is Rose Red. Then a layer of Very Vanilla that was embossed with the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder – distress the edges with the distressing tool in the Cutter Kit, and sponge with Sahara Sand ink. To create the quilt piece I glued the rectangles of Springtime Vintage Designer Series paper onto a piece of Very Vanilla card stock. Then cut it using the Big Shot and the Top Note die. Then emboss with the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder. Make sure to cut first and emboss second. I also cut a piece of Rose Red card stock with the Top Note die and cut it in half long ways. Take each half and glue to the back of the quilted piece to create a faux frame. Tie a piece of Rose Red Seam Binding around the Top Note before adhering it to the front of the card.
To decorate the front I used the Beautiful Wings Embosslit and cut butterflies out of Very Vanilla card stock and sponged them with Sahara Sand ink. I used the Petal Cone die to cut the banner from Very Vanilla card stock – stamp with Rose Red ink and “Happy Mother’s Day” from the Something to Celebrate stamp set. A Pearl was added to the center of the large butterfly and finally using a small amount of Crystal Effects (so it wouldn’t fall off) I added a Vintage Flower Adornment to one side of the banner.
Many of these items are in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog which ends on April 30th. I do know the Petal Cone die, the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder and Rose Red Seam Binding will still be available after the Mini end but don’t miss out on the Springtime Vintage Designer Series paper, Vintage Flower Adornments or the Something to Celebrate stamp set. You can order online 24-7 on my website – www.monika.stampinup.net – just click on the SHOP NOW button in the upper left corner – or send me an email and I can place the order for you.
Have a Happy Day!

Apr 18, 2011 | Birthday, Cards, My Digital Studio, Occasions Mini 2011 |
Owl’s are all the rage but they are also the school mascot for my KSU Card club. So last week when we had our monthly club meeting I wanted to make a fun owl card for them. I decided to use My Digital Studio and have them make a hybrid card. What is a hybrid card? It is when you combine digital elements with traditional elements to create your card. I was really happy with how cute this card turned out.
Isn’t he cute? The big owl is the digital part. I used My Digital Studio with the following Digital Downloads –
– Two-Step Owl Punch
– Botanical Gazette Designer Series paper
The fun thing about My Digital Studio is that I was able to take the different elements from the Owl punch and make them larger. I made them large enough that the took up the whole front of the card. I filled the different punch pieces with designer series paper or card stock. The eyes are all “popped up” by adding drop shadows – same with the heart. I created the owls on an 8-1/2 x 11 album page and put four on a page. Here is what it looks like.
With four owls to a page I printed them on Whisper White card stock. Then cut out the owls to make the cards. Each card is on a So Saffron card base that was stamped with the Sanded background stamp inked in So Saffron ink. The cut out owl is put on the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
Next I used the heart shaped Bitty Button – added some Linen Thread tied in a bow – and put it on top of the heart on the owl using a Mini Glue Dot. I love the little heart button.
I used the Family Phrases stamp set to add a greeting on the owl. My sample has Happy Birthday stamped on it. But the girls at the class could choose what they wanted. I think the cutest one was actually the “Love You Much” stamp.
The third class in my MDS class series will include this as a make&take project. This class will be in May and we will explore how to use MDS to create hybrid projects and for making cards.
I’m having lots of fun creating with My Digital Studio and love the idea of hybrid projects – it opens up a lot of possibilities!
Have a great week and create something fun!

Here is another card featuring the Four Frames stamp set and Paisley Petals Designer Series paper from the Spring is Blossoming promotion.

We made this one at my KSU card club meeting Thursday night. This one has a Baja Breeze card base. Across the bottom is a piece of River Rock card stock that I ran through the Big Shot with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder. Down the left side is a strip of Baja Breeze that was punched with the Scallop Trim Border punch on both sides and then layered with a piece of the Paisley Petals Designer Series paper.
The four frames stamp is stamped in River Rock on Whisper White card stock and punched out with the Decorative Label punch. Then punch another piece of Chocolate Chip card stock with the Decorative label punch and also the small oval punch. Cut the Decorative label in half and layer on each side of the stamped piece. Add the oval on top. Then punch flowers using the Boho Blossoms punch from Not Quite Navy card stock. Crumple up the flowers and then uncrumple and add a brad in the center and add your flower to the label. The stamped greeting is from the A Word For You stamp set.
In case you are wondering what colors the Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper includes here is the list –
- Baja Breeze
- Cherry Cobbler
- Chocolate Chip
- Marina Mist
- Not quite Navy
- Old Olive
- River Rock
- Soft Suede
- Tangerine Tango
You can order the items to make this card by visiting my website – and going to the SHOP NOW button.
I hope you like it.

Apr 16, 2011 | Cards, Designer Series Paper, Embellishments, SU Buttons, SU Ribbon |
During the month of April Stampin’ Up! has a special called the Spring is Blossoming promotion. It is a sneak peek of two new products from our next Idea Book & Catalog that will be out in July. During April is you spend $20 you can buy the Four Frames stamp set and the Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper. The stamp set contains four images that fit in the Decorative Label Punch – so you’ll want that to go with this set. I’ve already shared one project that I made with this set and today I have another.
This was one of the cards we made on Friday in my Hands-On Class. The layout for the card came from one that I saw in a magazine – I followed the sketch from that card but everything else was different. The card base is River Rock. And the top left corner is corner rounded. A piece from the Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper is layered on the front (also corner rounded in the top left corner). Going across the card is a strip of Baja Breeze that was punched with the Eyelet Border punch. And then another piece of the Designer Series Paper is added to that. The Four Frames stamp with the bird was stamped with Early Espresso ink on Whisper White card stock. Punch out with the Decorative Label punch. Add a greeting from Teeny Tiny Wishes. Using the Baja Breeze Stampin’ Write marker color the very edge of the label and also color in the bird.
Now on the left side of the card is some Early Espresso Satin Ribbon, a Paper Daisy, an Early Espresso button and some Linen Thread – it is all tied together – trim the ends of the ribbon and thread and it creates a pretty embellishment on the card. Do you like it?
I seem to gravitate towards the frame with the bird – but I’ll have another card tomorrow that uses a different frame. I hope you’ll be back to see it.

Apr 14, 2011 | Cards, Summer Mini 2011 |
Stampin’ Up! is selling Grab Bags in the Clearance Rack – you can order them through my Online Store on my website – www.monika.stampinup.net – then click SHOP NOW and then view the Clearance Rack. I order some and thought I would show you what I got in mine along with a card I created using some of the pieces in the Grab Bag.
The Grab Bags contain components from retired Simply Sent Card Kits. Which means they have pieces of card stock all cut, ready to stamp, layer and create a card. Plus the envelopes are included. Just add ink and stamps and you can put together some quick cards. So here is one of the $5 grab bags that I got –

$5 Grab Bag
The card components are from the Petite Pansies Simply Sent Card Kit. The ribbons and brads are from two other Simply Sent kits and then there is a pack of gift cards with mini envelopes. I wanted to make a card using these pieces so this is what I created:
I used the Strength & Hope stamp set that will be available in the Summer Mini Catalog and is a special stamp set with a portion of each sale being donated to Breast Cancer Research. All the details will be in the Summer Mini Catalog which should start showing up in mail boxes soon. I also added some pearls, Vanilla Smooch Spritz and used a couple of my tools including a punch and the color spritzer.
The cut pieces that I used are a Close to Cocoa 4×4 card base, a strip of Elegant Eggplant, a strip of Perfect Plum, a strip of Old Olive, and a piece of Very Vanilla. There is also a Very Vanilla envelope in the package. There are enough pieces to make 5 of these cards and then enough other pieces to make 5 different cards – I’ll create something with those later.
I used Old Olive ink, Chocolate Chip ink and Elegant Eggplant ink – all of these are current ink colors in our catalog. I also used the Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write Marker to add the spritz spots on top of the shimmer mist.
If you order a $5 grab bag you might get the same one I did or a different one. Here are pictures of some of the others that I got – another $5, two $10s and a $15 grab bag.

$5 Grab Bag

$10 Grab Bag

$10 Grab Bag

$15 Grab Bag
The $15 grab bags actually sold out so if you order one of those you will actually get a $10 and a $5 bag in your order.
And if you can’t get your creative juices flowing once you get all your card pieces then send everything off to a group like From Our Hearts – they will use the pieces to make cards to send to soldiers over seas – who can then use the cards to send home to their loved ones. Visit the From Our Hearts blog and read some of the letters. I just sent a box of over 200 cards and card fronts to them earlier this week. I’ll link to their blog again when they post that they received my box. Have fun with your Grab Bags!
