Color Challenge – UDI #37

Oh my goodness – I knew I was forgetting something yesterday but couldn’t figure out what it was.  It just hit me!  I needed to write my blog post for today for the Utah Diva’s Color Challenge.  Oops!  I’m here now.  So on to today’s challenge……

This weeks color combo was a more neutral muted combination of colors.  While our inspiration picture was a purse with flowers I decided to go a different route – and ended up with something probably more suited for a boy.  Here is the inspiration picture:

And here is the card I created based on a sketch and card idea from a paper craft magazine.

It isn’t one of my favorites but it includes all the colors for this challenge.  The base of the card is Soft Suede, then I have a layer of Basic Black.  On each end of the black is a strip of Pear Pizzazz that was embossed with the Big Shot and the Square Lattice embossing folder – I also punched out a notch – I was sure I had them lined up because I punched them a the same time but it turns out I had one flipped the wrong way and I wasn’t quite in the center – although I did try to measure for the center.  So I’m not really happy with it.

The Wish Big is from the Word Play stamp set that is on sale this month – so if you want this set make sure to buy it now.  I stamped it on the black with Versa Mark ink and covered it with White Embossing Powder and heat set it.  In the two notched out areas I added White Jumbo brads and then on the brad I stamped with Jet Black stazon the little star from Itty Bitty Bits (I think that is what it is called – I need to double check).  Then I punched large stars from Basic Gray, Pear Pizzazz, and So Saffron – two of each and they are stacked with dimensionals in between – so there is dimension to this card that you can’t see in this photo.  It makes a good boy card and isn’t everyone always looking for boy cards?

So there you have it – my color challenge card for the week.  Take a minute to visit the UDI site and play along with us this week.

You Mean the World to Me

You Mean the World to Me.  Yes you really do!

That’s the phrase that I used on this masculine card.

The idea for this card came from a magazine.  I combined the new The Open Sea stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Summer Mini Catalog with the Word Play stamp set that is on sale this month for 30% off.  They worked well together.

The card base is Early Espresso and it is stamped with the globe and manifest images from The Open Sea stamp set.  Then I added Not Quite Navy and and embossed/torn layer of Crumb Cake.

On top of that is a Whisper White piece stamped with “You Mean the World to me” and sponged to give it an old look.  I wrapped around a piece of the new Baker’s Twine (this one is the Early Espresso) and tied a button through it.

To pop out the “world” – I stamped it on scratch paper in Not Quite Navy and punched it out with the circle punch and popped it up with a Stampin’ Dimensional.

My envelope was stamped to match.  And on the inside is a panel of Whisper White and the corner of it was also stamped to match.

A very nice masculine card.  I hope you like it!

Open Sea – Coaster Desk Organizer

This desk organizer featuring the Nautical Expedition Designer Series paper and The Open Sea stamp set was one of the projects we made at my hands-on class last week.

The organizer is made using square coasters.  I covered the outsides and insides of the coasters with the Designer Series Paper.  Then use a Crop-A-Dile to punch holes – I hold two coasters together where the sides will match and then punch the holes through at the same time so they line up.  I usually mark each corner A, B, C, D so I know which two match up when I’m trying to put it all together.

To put it together I used Jute – which is thicker than hemp that Stampin’ Up! sells but you could also use that for this project.  I liked the look of the Jute and had some in my stash so that was what I went with.

Here is a view of what the inside looks like.

For the front decoration I actually cut another coaster with my Big Shot and the Circles #2 die – I used the largest circle on the die which happens to be the same size as our largest circle punch.  On a piece of card stock I stamped the various images from The Open Sea stamp set – in sort of a collage.  I punched it out and sponged the edges and glued it to my coaster circle – I suppose I could have stamped directly on the coaster since it was plain white but I didn’t.  I added the star punched from Crumb Cake card stock, stamped with the manifest image, and put in a Cherry Cobbler brad. I tied a couple of pieces of the Jute into a square knot and added it to the front.

This could sit on a dresser and be a drop off spot for a cell phone, car keys, wallet.  Or on the end table and hold all the tv remotes.  Or on a desk and hold pencils, scissors and stuff. I have one in my craft room – its got my pens, pencils, my different scissors, my bone folder, paper piercer, and more.   Decorate with flowers and such if you want it to be feminine or like this one to make it masculine.

UDI Color Challenge #36 with On The Grow

Here it is Tuesday and time for a Color Challenge.  Are you ready for this one?

This week we have a another bright summery color combination – Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black, Garden Green, More Mustard and Very Vanilla.  Here is the inspiration picture that we got.

Click on this link to go to the  Utah Diva’s Color Challenge blog.   There you can see the creations from the entire design team and add a link to your creation if you decide to play along.

I needed a card swap for my demonstrator meeting Saturday night so I decided to use the colors for this challenge for that and get two things done at once.  I already had planned on using the new On the Grow stamp set from the Stampin’ Up! Summer Mini Catalog.  I didn’t buy this set at first but I did think it was cute.  But then I saw other demos using it and you know we are such bad influences on each other – it became a “have to have” set and I put it on my next order.

To create the focal point I did a little trick that you can do with the Clear Stamps – I mounted both the scooter and the words on one clear block and stamped them at the same time.  Here is what it looks like –

I really need to mount them on a larger block but this one worked and was within arms reach when I was making this card.  To create the card I stamped the images in VersaMark ink and then embossed with Black Embossing Powder.  Next I water colored the image using my Aqua painter and classic inks – except for the black tires I used a Water Color Wonder Crayon for it.

The card base is Garden Green stamped with the grass from Inspired by Nature.  I added the little More Mustard Butterflies cut with the Big Shot and the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.  Behind the focal image I tied some Very Vanilla ribbon – I used Seam Binding on some of the cards and then ran out and switched to the Taffeta ribbon – both looked good.

In this picture I have the added flower from the new Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch with a pearl in the center.  I didn’t actually have this on my meeting swaps only because I ran out of time.  I was still cutting and gluing on butterflies as everyone was walking in the door.

So there you have it – my color challenge card for the week.  Take a minute to visit the UDI site and play along with us this week.

Scallop Circle Easel Card

Today I’m going to show you a Scallop Circle Easel Card – at least that is what I think it is called.  First the scallop circle because that is the shape of it and then an easel because it stands up by itself like an easel.

This is the one we made at one of my stamp club meetings – the girls saw the sample that my friend Fran Kennedy brought as a swap to one of my downline meetings and they wanted me to show them how to make it.  Of course it uses the Big Shot – whatever did we do without the Big Shot.   I used a Rich Razzleberry base for the card – what I did was cut a 5-1/2 x 8-1/2″ piece of card stock and fold it in half.  Then lay it on the Scallop Circle die so that the scallop edge comes right to the cut (or open) side of the card and the folded side of the card is just inside about 4 scallops or so.  This will create the base of the card which is a folded scallop circle.  You take the top of it and fold it back on itself.  Then cut a full scallop circle from the same color card stock and glue it to the piece you just folded back – matching it up to the bottom of the card.  When the card is closed it is the shape of a scallop circle.

For the top of the card I cut a circle out of Whisper White card stock using the Clear Circle die and then for the inside I cut one from Marina Mist card stock.  On the White I stamped from the Just Believe stamp set – in Old Olive ink – then sponged the bottom edge.  Sponge around and along the top with Marina Mist to create the blue sky.  Before gluing it down add the ribbon – I did not really tie a bow here at all.  What I did was punch a hole in the white card stock – take the ribbon and create a loop (to look like the cancer ribbon) – then take the top of the loop and push it down to where the ribbon crosses – put a brad around all of that and insert through the hole.  It creates the little bow like you see on the card.  I just used some snail to hold the tails down on the back of the circle.  Glue it to the front and add the butterflies that were cut from the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.

On the inside you have to add a “stopper” – that will hold the front when you stand the card up.  I used the frame image from the Just Believe stamp set – stamp, cut, sponge and attach with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Here is the card Fran made for her swap –

I hope you like today’s project.
