I’m back! Hello my stamping friends. I’ve been away from my blog for awhile and I’m trying to get back to posting. There just aren’t enough hours in the day. But it’s time for our monthly A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop. A blog hop filled with alternate ideas using contents from the monthly kit. The May kit was called Batter Up and it was a baseball theme but I’ve put a twist on it.
This timeless kit with a “throwback” theme contains enough grand slam supplies to create nine cards—featuring classic colors, pinwheel and pinstripe patterns, and vintage-washed paper pieces. There’s no “batter” way to root, root, root for your home team and honor the all-stars in your life! There are even some pieces of bubble gum in the kit for a fun twist while you craft or play ball!
Baseball is actually big around here – go Braves! But we are not really a baseball family so I came up with some different alternates for you today. I do love the printed card bases so I wanted to work with those and the pieces that came in the kit but with a twist. The color scheme is fun for this time of year – summer, memorial day, and the 4th of July are perfect for a red, white and blue (and yellow) theme – so I did stick with the colors in this kit. But I added a bundle so that it wasn’t so sports oriented. I used the Sweet Strawberry Bundle – which is a carry over from the JJ Mini Catalog into the new Annual Catalog. Yay!
Card Trio
For my cards I decided to pull out the Sweet Strawberry Bundle and use both the stamp set and the punch to add a more feminine twist. On the back of the instruction sheet (don’t you love the new instructions!) you can see the list of coordinating colors and I grabbed my ink in Real Red, Bumblebee, and Soft Suede to use with the Night of Navy ink that came in the kit. By rearranging the pieces and in some cases stamping on the back – the white side – and punching some flowers, leaves and a strawberry these cards take on a whole new look.
Stamping tips
By sticking with the main colors in the kit the cards kept the same vibe. Since I didn’t want to introduce a shade of green for my leaves I used the Soft Suede instead. On all three cards I combined sentiments from the Sweet Strawberry stamp set and the Batter Up stamp set. To “hide” the baseball elements try stamping on the back side like I did on the baseball card for the mom card, the baseball on the friend card, and on the back of both the base plate and the 4th strip for the thank you card. I did have to pull in just a small scrap of Basic White card stock for the strawberry and large leaves.
Cut or punch the die cut pieces
The striped Real Red/Bumblee piece was cut into 4 strips and I used 2 pieces on the mom card and 2 on the thank you card. Using the Sweet Strawberry punch you can get flowers out of the small red strip – stamp first with the Real Red ink the outline of the small flower then punch by lining up the end with the small flower.
Supply List
The additional supplies that I added to complete this project were:

It’s my Stampiversary and I want to celebrate with you. I found some photos from 2006 at my very first convention with Stampin’ Up! When I started I didn’t really know anyone and traveled alone to Utah and walked into the hotel room to meet my room mate – Michele from Iowa – we are still friends today! A very exciting part of the event was meeting Shelli Gardner the co-founder of Stampin’ Up! and CEO at that time. Now her daughter Sara is the CEO. over these 15 years I have met 100s of friends (maybe more like 1000+) from all over the world and these women are so amazing and creative! It’s been an amazing journey and I’m so excited to continue for another 15 years (goodness knows how old I will be then!)
