Oct 4, 2010 | Big Shot, Bingo, Fabric |
I got back late last night from my trip so I have a quick post for you. At my downline meeting last month I asked a couple of people to bring Make&Take projects and I wanted to share those with you.
Joyce shared this cute pencil project that she found somewhere – she was making them for a friend and prepped enough for our meeting. The inside is ROLO candy we wrapped them with just a piece of paper and taped it to hold them in roll. I forgot why we couldn’t just use the rerolled candy – but she had a reason for it. Then we made the outside pencil part with So Saffron card stock – we scalloped one edge and then scored in between all the scallops to create the look of a pencil. If you want to add writing or something to the edge of the pencil do that before attaching it around the candy. We added a kiss in the end for the point. At the other end we wrapped a piece of pink card stock and then foil. And we added a piece of pink at the very end to finish off the eraser.
Lisa showed us all how to make these flowers. This is my green one. She showed us several different ones that she made including one that was on her shirt – everyone thought she bought it at the store that way!
We used the Big Shot to cut the fabric – mine uses the Circles #2 Die but other people used the scalloped circles. We saw these same kind of flowers at convention. But I had forgotten about them. You cut a bunch of layers of fabric, layer them and stitch together in the center. The more layers the fuller the flower. Then use the heat tool to heat the fabric until it curls. So you need to use a synthetic fabric – like a sating slippery fabric so that it will curl when you heat it. I didn’t do it on mine but you can add in something on the center like a button or brad. And then add a pin to the back so you can pin it to your top.
The other two projects we made were my Birthday Bakery card – see it HERE –
and the Got Treats? skinny bags – see those HERE –
We had a wonderful time at the meeting. The next one is in November and if you are a demonstrator that lives near me you are invited to join me. Just email me for more information.

Oct 3, 2010 | Bingo, Birthday, Cards, Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! Events, Watercoloring |
Hi everyone! Today is Sunday and I am on my way back home tonight from a trip to Virginia and Maryland. I went to visit my sister-in-law and on Friday we went to the Baltimore Regional. We had a great time! We saw lots of great WOW demonstrations which I’ll tell you more about later. The Make&Takes were all great and I’ll share those with you too. When I get home I can download all my pictures and share all of those things.
For today I’m going to share some of the cards we made in my Love Your Pets class. These two cards use the Stampin’ Up! Level 2 Hostess Stamp Set called Longfellows. These are quick and simple cards and I made some more for my regional swaps using different images. I think now I’ll go back and make a whole set using all the images that are included.
The front is pretty basic with a piece of Designer Series Paper on one side, the image stamped in Jet Black StazOn ink and watercolored, then layered on a piece of Crumb Cake (I keep writing Kraft and then deleting to correct it) that was scallopped on one side.

On the inside I stamped just the front and back of the dog (or the cat) on each edge of the card. I should have added a matching sentiment on the inside but I didn’t think about that.
The front also has the little Bitty Button thread with some Linen Thread.
If you were looking for a great idea with this stamp set – I hope you like this one! And now let’s move on to Bingo…..

Oct 2, 2010 | Big Shot, Bingo, class, Masking, Watercoloring |
This little project is an idea that came straight from the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog. On page 75 is the Friends Fur-ever stamp set. And right above it is this cute little box. Now I made a few changes to my version. First I used different colors. Mine actually came from the Color Coach. I pulled the So Saffron card and on the back is the Sweet Set combination of So Saffron, Riding Hood Red and Soft Suede. A perfect combination for this project in my opinion!

I stamped in Jet Black StazOn ink and did some watercoloring and some cutting out. Yes that little bone is a pain to cut out but I think it is so cute popped up and tied with the linen thread. Not everyone in my class did that part. I did show them how to do the masking technique for this. Basically you stamp the little wagon first on your card stock. Then stamp it again on a post-it note and cut it out right along the lines – you don’t want to leave any edge for this technique. Then cover your image on the card stock with the post it note so you can stamp the bones so they look like they are inside the wagon.
Then the other fun thing I did was stamp the bone on the twill ribbon – instant matching ribbon!

Fill this little box with some dog treats for your new neighbors! Won’t they think your the best when you bring something for their dog!
The box by the way is the Box #2 XL die for the Big Shot. Have fun!

Oct 1, 2010 | Big Shot, Bingo, Cards, Christmas, Embellishments, Holiday Mini Catalog 2010, SU Ribbon |
I just loved this card idea when I saw it shared by Lee Conrey a couple of weeks ago. So super simple but elegant. Here is a link to her original card – click here.
I made a color change for my card and used a Soft Suede card base and a Crumb Cake piece for the embossing. This is the new Northern Flurry embossing folder in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday mini catalog. Isn’t it gorgeous?
After I embossed it I used the Frost White Shimmer Paint and a Sponge Dauber to lightly add the frost shimmer to the embossed snowflake.
I punched a hole with my Crop-a-Dile – I used the smaller hole. The ribbon is Early Espresso 3/8″ Taffeta ribbon – which is lighter than the actual Early Espresso color so it worked great on this card. The greeting is from Sincere Salutations – which is one of my older stamp sets – I had this one long ago before I was a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. The final touch on this card are the Rhinestones in the center of each snowflake. These are new in the Stampin’ Up! catalog and a lot of people are missing them because they aren’t easy to see in the catalog. They are on page 188 under the section Jewels. It lists both the Basic Rhinestones which is what I used here and the Basic Pearls (love those too). These come on a sheet and are self-adhesive. I use my paper piercer to carefully lift one off the sheet and place it on my project. Each sheet has 3 sizes of Rhinestones or Pearls plus three strips or chains – where there are a bunch of the small ones already in a perfect row for you. But if you don’t need them in a row you can seperate them and use them individually.
For this card I used all three sizes of the Rhinestones because I had three sizes of the snowflakes. There is one in the center of each.

Sep 30, 2010 | Big Shot, Bingo, Cards, Christmas, Holiday Mini Catalog 2010, Thumping |
The holidays are rapidly approaching and to help you with that, I am trying something new this year called the 12 Weeks of Christmas.
Do you need help with Holiday ideas? Need idea for your Christmas cards or gifts? Do you want some Holiday inspiration?
If your answer is yes to any of these questions, then say HELLO to the 12 Weeks of Christmas Newsletter. This will be a weekly newsletter sent out on Wednesday’s starting October 6th. Each Wednesday, the newsletter will contain a card or project (which will include hand made gift ideas, decorations, tags, and packaging). You will get a picture of the project, a list of supplies used to create it and a brief description/instruction (if needed) for you to make this project.
Here is an example:

This card uses the Thumping technique to create the trees – I used this same technique earlier on a fall card. For this example I inked my trees with Pear Pizzazz ink and then used Stampin’ Write markers in Wild Wasabi and Garden Green to thump the image before I stamped it on my paper. I went back and added accents with the Smooch Pearlized Accent ink in Gold.
Stampin’ Up! Supplies:
- Card stock: Wild Wasabi, Garden Green, Soft Suede,Whisper White
- Ink: Pear Pizzazz, Soft Suede, Stampin’ Write Markers: Soft Suede, Garden Green Wild Wasabi
- Stamp sets: Paisley Prints, Peaceful Season
- Big Shot Die-Cut Machine, Square Lattice Textured Impressions Folder
- Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink Gold Lame
