Over the summer when we went on our family vacation my niece, Emily, brought her traveling gnome.  During our vacation she took him around and took pictures of him – he had a few adventures along the way – including one that she wasn’t aware of – the boys took him for a while and have photos and videos of the gnome in some places he shouldn’t have been.  Emily had a birthday in October and I was trying to decide what kind of birthday card to make for her.  Her birthday was approaching quickly and I still hadn’t figure out the perfect card.  And then the day of her birthday it popped in my head – I need to make a gnome card – a punch art gnome card.   But it took me another week or so to sit down and actually figure it out.  Here it is…..

I made a tall card – one that fits in the Small Open-End Envelope.

The base is Marina Mist with a layer of Crumb Cake that I ran through the Big Shot with the Texturz Plate Kit #4 – the one that looks like wood – I think it is called distressed on the plate.

Then I went to work on the punch art and I did use the OWL punch for my gnome – can you guess which part?  His beard!  And his little eyes.

I’m trying to remember the pieces that I used.  The hat is Riding Hood Red and it is the large Star punch.  So if you have the 5 point star – the top point is the top of the hat – then cut off the point on either side of the top point – leaving two points at the bottom.  Then use the circle punch to cut in between the two bottom points and make the curve of the hat.  I hope that make sense.

The beard pieces are cut from the body of the owl like the cut for the Dahlia fold card I showed not too long ago – go here to see it.  I sponged the edges of each piece and curled it.  The ones on either side of the face are cut into thin strips.

The shoes are the medium heart from the Heart to Heart punch – sponged just a little bit of white.  I think the body was just a square with two strips added as arms and two strips for the belt.  I did use the Smooch Pearlized Accent Ink in Gold lame for the belt buckle.  I used a marker to add some accents on the jacket.

He resembles the traveling gnome and Emily loved him.  I gave her a gift card to the book store and she is supposed to take her gnome with her when she uses it.
