Watercolor Lily

This is one of the cards that we made at the Stamper’s Club Meeting on Friday night.  The stamp set is called 5th Ave. Floral and is one of four sets that Stampin’ Up! has on sale this month.

The flower is stamped three times on watercolor paper and then watercolored with an Aquapainter and Classic ink.  Then different sections of the flower are cut out and layered with dimensionals to give it a very 3-D look.  The base includes the whole flower, the second layer includes the center and four petals (the ones at 12,3,6, and 9 if you think of it as a clock face), the third layer is just the one petal in the front (at 6).

The idea behind this card and the bow were from Heather Summers a demonstrator in Canada that has various online classes – this was part of her current Simply Stamping class.  The bow she calls a cheater bow because you really just fold the ribbon and then tie the button around it to create the look of a bow.

So here is a little more information about this months Stampin’ Up! special – Two-Step into Spring Promotion.

First there is a Hostess promotion – host a $350 workshop and earn a free stamp set called Awash with Flowers – a brand new set coming out in the next catalog.

It’s Time for a Color Challenge

Boy the week just flies by – its Saturday again and challenge day at Create with Connie & Julie!

Congratulations to last weeks winners of the Easter Card challenge – 1st place was Lisa, 2nd place was Robin and Honorable mention to Cynthia.  Thanks to everyone that played along the entries were all great.  I hope you will play this week too.

This week our challenge was a COLOR challenge – So Saffron, Certainly Celery and Orchid Opulence.  And it was definitely a challenge for me!  Why?  Because my least favorite color out of all the Stampin’ Up! colors is Orchid Opulence – so I don’t have an ink pad and only a couple of pieces of card stock – luckily I did have my Stampin’ Write Marker!     One of the big reasons that the Stampin’ Write Markers are so great – if you buy the whole set like I did then you will have ink in every color so when you need one and don’t have an ink pad – pull out the marker and you are set!  It saved me with this color challenge!

The featured items this week are from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog and the Sale-A-Bration Brochure – Abundant Hope stamp set, Stampin’ Up! Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Butterfly Accent stamp and Decor Stencils – Paisley Patterns and Folk Flowers.  My choice was to use the Beautiful Wings Embosslit – because I love it and because it was the only one of the featured items that I had this week.  And here is what I created….

Are you wondering where the background is from, the flowers under the butterflies?  It is a piece from the Storybook Designer Series Specialty paper.  If you haven’t taken a look at this pack of paper on one side of each is what looks like a coloring sheet.  It is textured card stock so it was similar to watercolor paper.  I picked a piece of one of the patterns that had flowers on it so the butterflies could be flittering around the flowers.   And with no color on the design I could watercolor it with any colors that I wanted.  I used my Aquapainter and the classic ink pads.  But since I didn’t have the Orchid Opulence ink pad what I did for those was scribble on one of the plastic stamp cases to make a puddle of ink to use for watercoloring.    I always loved to color in coloring books when I was little so I had a lot of fun with this and now that I got the pack out I think I need to play some more.

I used the Beautiful Wings Embosslit in the Big Shot to cut the Butterflies in So Saffron and Orchid Opulence.  I edged the butterflies with a Soft Suede marker to make them stand out a little bit more.  I used some white crochet thread around the centers to make the antennas.  The butterflies are on Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Picnic Parade

Picnic Parade is the Level 2 Hostess set in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini catalog.  It is the cutest little stamp set.  It reminds me of the Beatrix Potter designs that were big when my kids were babies – not sure if that is still popular now.

This card was one that we made at my class on Friday.  It could be an Easter card, or birthday card, or a whatever you want it for card.

This particular card design is from another demonstrator  but now I can’t figure out where I found it.  I know I left her a comment.  So if it was you please leave me a comment back so I can add your name here.

If you get this stamp set in the Clear Mount Version the great thing is you can mount all the stamps on one of the large rectangle blocks and stamp them all at the same time!  Or you can do them individually which is nice in the clear mount because you can see.  The down side is they are fairly small which makes them harder to clean.  And the little lady bug by itself is also hard to stamp with out catching an edge in ink – it did help to mount it with the other animals.

These are all watercolored with an aquapainter using classic ink.  I added the bunny on the inside too – he turned out cute directly on the Sahara Sand card stock.  And I stamped the bunny and the raccoon on my envelope.  It all matches.

The animals in my back yard are happy today – it is sunny, fairly warm – although we don’t have any green grass yet.

I hope you like this cute card.

And as my card says “Have a happy day every step of the way!”

Quick Cards Class

So last week while I was lying in bed drifting off to sleep one night I cam up with an idea for a new class.  A Quick Cards class.  I had been working on my challenge card for the Create with Connie & Julie class and I was using the Happy Moments stamp set.  It was hard to create only one card when there were four great images in the stamp set – so I actually made four cards and then started thinking that I could turn this into a Quick Cards class.  It would be all cards, quick, simple – something for beginners or those that haven’t done much stamping or when you are short on time.

And here is my first class…

Quick Cards class - March 2nd

Quick Cards Class – Happy Moments

When: Tuesday, March 2nd

Time: 10:00 am and 7:00 pm

You will be making 4 cards with matching envelopes.

I hope you can join me and come have some fun!

Happy Moments – Sketch Challenge

Last week’s challenge winners were Lisa Martz and Robin Gregor with Cynthia Stevenson having an honorable mention!  Thanks to everyone that played along.  I hope you will join us this week!
It is time for another challenge at Create with Connie & Julie!  This week our challenge is a SKETCH challenge.  The featured items this week are from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog and the Sale-A-Bration Brochure – Happy Moments, Tote-ally Tess, and Tiny Tags stamp sets.  I decided to use the Happy Moments stamp set – it has turned out to me one of my favorite’s from the Sale-A-Bration brochure.  Once I started to use it I realized this is one of those sets that covers almost any occasion – change the colors and combine various sentiments with the images and you can use it for almost anything.

Here is the sketch that we had to work with.

I picked the colors because I had some ribbon that was sitting together in my craft room – Chocolate Chip, Bashful Blue and Certainly Celery – I like how they looked together so I decided to use that for my color scheme.  Based on the sketch I decided to get out the Sweet Pea Designer Paper Pack and I chose papers that had those colors and cut them into 1/4″ strips to layer on my card.

As I was creating the card I didn’t like the sentiment coming off the top of the image so I decided to flip the sketch upside down.

The image is stamped on Watercolor paper and I used my Classic ink and an Aqua Painter to do the watercoloring.  I added some linen thread at the top.

I also wanted to decorate the inside of the card.  So I used the same image and added a “hanger” for the bird cage by tracing around a punched circle.  I really like how it turned out.  I actually made a full set of cards using all the images in the happy Moments stamp set.  I will show that later – it will be one of my new Quick Cards classes – I’m just trying to choose the date and then I’ll let everyone know.

Here is a full list of Stampin’ Up! supplies for this card:

  • Chocolate card stock and ink and Stampin’ Write marker
  • Bashful Blue card stock and ink
  • Certainly Celery ink
  • Old Olive ink
  • Sahara Sand ink
