May 14, 2010 | Big Shot, Cards, Create with Connie & Mary, Summer Mini 2010 |
I already showed you the little gift box I made at Pam’s workshop last week so today I’m going to share the make-n-take project that everyone made.
This is my version of a card that was originally created by Wendy Randall. I made a few little changes to it. I changed the base to Old Olive and added the Melon Mambo panel that was textured with the new Stampin’ Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
I do have to tell you when I saw this folder in the Summer Mini catalog it really didn’t look like anything at all. So I did not order it. But then I started seeing samples of this really cool embossed background and wondered where it came from. Well it was the new embossing folder! So you can’t always tell by the picture in the catalog what it looks like in real life. So I had to order it and I finally got it. This was my first card with it. You really need to see it in person.
The other change was that I added the linen thread and the little flower on the side. I like this card because the little squares look like window panes. We used the square punches to create that look – the 1-1/4″ punch was used on the Whisper White with the stamped images from the Tropical Party stamp set. The 1-3/8″ punch was used to punch the colored mats – So Saffron, Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive. Then the squares were arranged on a larger Chocolate Chip square.
Isn’t it a fun little summer card that could be used for any number of things? I hope you like it.
If you want to see more great project ideas featuring products from the Summer Mini Catalog then join us at Create with Connie & Mary. Last week we featured the tropical items, this week the travel items. Next week think flowers and fairies. There is a new project every day – at least two tutorials each week (I think so far there have always been more than 2) – a chance to win prizes by playing along with our weekly challenges. Come back tomorrow to see the designers Challenge projects for this week.

May 13, 2010 | Big Shot, SU Ribbon, Summer Mini 2010 |
Last weekend I had a workshop at my friend Pam’s house. I wanted to show them the Big Shot and make a quick hostess gift. So this is what I came up with…

I used a piece of Kraft card stock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Fancy Favor box die. Before I assembled the box I stamped the front and back and both sides with the large floral image from the Elements of Style stamp set. I used Chocolate Chip ink and also sponged the edges of the box with Chocolate Chip ink. I assembled the box and added a quick handle made from Chocolate Chip Satin Ribbon.
On the front I used the Two-Step Bird punch in Really Rust to create my bird – sponged, of course, in Chocolate Chip ink. I also added a little tag using the “for you” stamp from the same set. It is tied with Linen Thread to the handle.
This project fits the Late Night Stampers Challenge for this week – Make it from the Mini. Speaking of the Summer Mini we are having lots of fun with the summer mini at Create with Connie & Mary – and its not too late to join us.
Thanks for stopping by!

May 10, 2010 | Cards, Graduation, Summer Mini 2010 |
Two weekends ago I went to a stamping retreat at my upline’s house – she calls it Weekend at Wendy’s and I think this is our 3 or 4 year to do this. It is such a fun weekend of stamping and sharing with a group of women that have the same passion that I do. There were 10 of us this year from Georgia and Texas. Our weekend included a shoebox swap, a group meeting with a card swap and we made fabric purses. So for the next little while I’ll be sharing projects from our weekend.
I’m going to start with a graduation card that we made as part of one of the shoebox swap projects – we created a card holder using one of the Thoroughly Modern file folders and a couple of cards to go inside. My son, Kyle, is graduating in just a few weeks so I have Graduation on my mind.
This card was designed by Nancy Hewitt and uses the new Go, Graduation stamp set and the Happy Grad stamp that is sold individually in the back of the Stampin’ Up! Summer Mini catalog.
The card opens and has a pocket to hold cash or a check to give to a Graduate. The stamp with all the feet works perfectly for this card. I love it and plan to make some more in our school colors for friends that we need to give gifts to.
Have a great day!

This week on Create with Connie & Mary we have had a Tropical Party! And to finish out the week our challenge was to create a party favor. Our featured products this week are the Tropical Party stamp set, Island Oasis Designer Series Paper and the Island Floral Stampin’ Up! Die. A fun set of products and just perfect for a summer party theme.
In my mind I had the thought of creating a treasure chest and filling it with something. So I set out to create my treasure chest. This is what I came up with.
It is made from the Box #2 Bigz XL Die for the Big Shot and the Top Note Die which creates the curved top. I started with a More Mustard box and sponged all the edges with Chocolate Chip ink. Then I cut Chocolate Chip panels for all the sides and the top. Each of the panels and the top note were run through the Big Shot with the “Distressed” Texture Plate which is part of the #4 Texture Plate kit. I also punch the panel corners with the Ticket Corner punch and then I sponged all the edges and some over all the texture. The Top Note is attached on t
he back with some adhesive and 2 vintage brads.
I let the Top Note curve over the top to create the look of a treasure chest. I added another brad in the front but there is actually a piece of velcro that holds it shut.
Now I had this cute box and couldn’t decide what to do with it. It sat on my craft table for a couple of days and then we had Cinco de Mayo and I was thinking about Margarita’s – apparently I was still thinking about when I woke up Thursday morning because I woke up knowing exactly what I wanted to do.
I pulled out a Margarita Glass and went to the store to get a little bottle of something. And when I was done I had the cutest party favor for an adult tropical party! Adults need party favors too – don’t they?
A margarita party favor – complete with a glass, a bottle of tequila, salt for the glass and a little umbrella. The only problem I ran into was that the bottle would not fit in my treasure chest without cutting a hole in the side and I didn’t want to do that. So I added a flower to the bottle and set it in the glass. All the flowers are Rock-n-rolled using Pumpkin Pie and Melon Mambo ink.
And inside the Treasure Chest is the salt – which is inside a small cello bag which has been folded over and stapled and I added a belly band. And the little drink umbrella.
I added a decoration to the stem of the glass –
It actually looks so fun – I think I need to have a party just to make these to decorate the table. This was a fun challenge !
It also looked cute with the salt and umbrella in the glass which leaves my treasure chest empty – maybe fill with candy or a gift card to a Mexican restaurant if you need to give a gift to someone.

May 6, 2010 | Big Shot, Blog Candy, Create with Connie & Mary, Summer Mini 2010 |
This week on Create with Connie and Mary we are having a “Tropical Party”! Every day during this week the team has created a project using the items that coordinate with the tropical set, die and paper! Mary found the footnote flip flops at a local store and just KNEW they would be PERFECT for a special project! And since we just HAD to do something with them…we are sharing them with YOU!
Today is my day to give away Blog Candy on my blog so I have created a little Tropical Treat project to share with you.
I made these little treats for all of my friends at our STARZ retreat this past weekend. I filled 1×8 clear bags with rainbow skittles! Don’t they match the colors in our new Island Oasis paper just perfectly?
I made a tag to tie to the top of each treat by first punching a 1-3/4″ circle from Tempting Turquoise card stock. Then I stamped the palm tree and coconut image on Whisper White card stock. The palm tree is inked with Stampin’ Write Markers – Chocolate Chip for the tree trunk and Old Olive for the leaves. The coconut is stamped in Chocolate Chip ink and then I used my markers to color in the straw and the umbrella. I cut both of these out – the palm tree is attached flat with snail and the coconut is attached with a dimensional. And I did stamp the word “friends” on each one. That stamp comes from the Tiny Tags stamp set. Last punch a 1/8″ hole in the top of the tag and tie it around the top of the bag with some white crochet thread.
Besides the cutting out these are quick and easy little treats.
