One of the fun things about convention is to see all of the displays that they have set up. They have things set up inside Memento Mall – which is the special store that we get to shop in to get SU logo products. The first day they limit almost everything and then usually the second day the limits are lifted. This year I got to get in early with special VIP privileges for getting a recruit at the beginning of July! I didn’t have to wait in line – I walked right in, did my shopping and waited briefly to check out. I was so caught up with that I didn’t stop to take pictures that first day when the store was full of product.
Here is the new shirt – and I did buy one so you will see me in it. This one did not sell out. There was also a t-shirt and it did sell out quickly. The laptop bag – yep I got one of those – sold out. And there looked to be a few of the craft totes left – I did not get one because I have the one I bought at last years convention.
These are the flowers on the display table where they had bags of Taffy in Stampin’ Up! colors.
Other items that I bought included some cute new shopping bags, rulers, pens, collapsible trash bins. Many of those sold out too. The trash bins were very popular! And I brought back a surprise for all of my downline! Do you want a surprise too – then consider joining my team and I’ll have something for you too. The new starter kit in the mini catalog is only $175 and is full of exciting new products.
There are also displays throughout the Demonstrator Resource Center which is a fun place for us to get lots of ideas.
Sample “rooms” featuring Decor Elements and stamped elements.
This year Stampin’ Up! created a special place called the sweet shop. OMG you should have seen the stamped creations in there. Stuff looked good enough to eat. The displays are always coordinated on a color or theme. The sweet shop had Halloween, Christmas, Birthday, Office organization, Wedding themes and more.
Lots of ideas on treats and sweets and fun project ideas. I had mostly closeup pictures of ideas I might want to use but here are a few of the displays in general.

Lots of fun new holiday ideas.
My favorite were the chocolates – they looked yummy enough to eat even though it was all made out of paper, ribbon and accessories.
Fun stuff! Have a sweet day!

This is a long story of my journey home from the Stampin’ Up! convention – no stamping ideas or convention news in this post so you may or may not want to continue.
I don’t do a whole lot of traveling and only fly a couple times a year. But it seems the last several times I flew I got caught up in the security check. I’m usually the one that has to get their bag emptied (that happened last fall and the lady checking my bag really liked all my projects that I had in there but I was late for a flight and had to hurry along), or the extra scan and on my way out I got the mini pat down this time – ugh! So coming home on Sunday I was sure that something would pop up while I was in security – but surprise I breezed right through the security at the Salt Lake City airport and I had tried something new – I had my boarding pass sent to my cell phone – so no paper to hang on to through out the airport. I thought I was doing good – I was there early and even went to find Becky (one of my roommates) who as it turned out was in the same terminal I was and I was able to sit with her until she boarded her flight.
I returned to my gate to wait for my flight which should start boarding shortly – and there was even a plane there so that was a good sign – no delays on the incoming flight (I had that on the way out too). I even found a group of other Stampin’ Up! ladies to sit and talk to and share swaps with. But then the agent came onto the intercom and informed the group that we had a delay – the plane at the gate was damaged (no details given) and it could not be used – they were searching for another plane and would give us an update. A delay causes problems for those with connecting flights – which wasn’t my case since I paid a hefty price for the the direct flight. So no big deal I thought, I had already told the agent I was willing to wait until the next flight anyway (and he said I’d be the first on the list and get a $200 voucher). And then a little while later the big announcement came – “Flight 1064 to Atlanta has been Cancelled”. Ummmm – now what – I’m not a season traveler – I wasn’t sure what to do at this point. According to the agent they had a “team” that was rebooking everyone on the flight to get to their destination and if we waited for a few minutes we could scan our boarding passes and see what flight we were on.
let’s just say I learned a lot over the next few hours about traveling and see just how big a PUZZLE the whole thing is – delays and cancellations sure do change the look of all the travel plans for everyone involved. My step into the modern world of having a paperless boarding pass on my cell phone turned into this by the time I got home:
When I went and scanned my original boarding pass to see what flight they put me on it was a flight to SEATTLE leaving at 8:50 pm from Salt Lake – and then another flight from Seattle to Atlanta which would put me on a plane for probably 10-12 hours and arriving in Atlanta around 7 am Sunday morning. With that I got a $6 food voucher- that’s it! R U kidding me? I spent $6 on a mid morning snack at the airport waiting on my flight – that wasn’t going to take me through to the next day. There were 4 more flights to Atlanta so I thought I could some how get on to one of those.
Everyone else seemed to be getting on the phone and one of my friends said they told her to call a 1-800 nbr because they didn’t give her a flight yet. So I called that number too and told her my flight was cancelled and I knew there was a 12 and a several more flights headed to Atlanta. She asked what gate I was at (B3) and said start walking to (D10) while I get you on that flight. I took a quick peek at the time seeing that it was 11:45 I decided I needed to run to make a 12:00 flight. So I did (and boy did I need to stop at the little girls room too but I decided to wait on that until I got there). For those of you ladies that I was sitting there talking to that was why I left so abruptly – sorry I didn’t get to say good-bye!
I ran all the way to the other gate and guess what – that flight was delayed by 1 and half hours. And I came to find out I was only on Standby and not actually on the flight (or any other flight). I was nbr 14 on the standby list and the agent said I needed to call again because I needed to get confirmed on a flight. All these terms I wasn’t really familiar with before. So I head off to do that and get on a RED help phone. So to begin with the lady I talked to said I don’t have any flights to put you on. And I said “well I can’t stay in the airport forever so look some more”. So she finds a 12:50 AM flight (just after midnight as they all kept saying) – it arrives in Atlanta on Monday morning at 6 something AM. That is what she can confirm me on. Ok then do that, but I still want to try to get on the earlier flight too. She said to go scan my ticket again and it will print out my new flight info. So I went to do that and it also prints out a hotel voucher. I guess if they move you to the next day you get the hotel voucher. (that actually turned out to be a plus later on)
I went back to the gate to see the standby status – I moved up to 11 – progress made but not likely to get on the flight. I went to go check the next flight but the agents weren’t at the gate yet. I came back and waited by the desk while they boarded the plane moved over some standbys and asked the lady what to do – since I had never done this before could she give me help. I happened to be standing by another lady on a business trip that had been trying to get home since 8 am on Saturday – a full day longer than me. She was preparing to write a complaint letter to Delta about her experience, etc. and I decide it would be a good idea for me to stick with her and the agent that seemed interested in helping both of us. That paid off in the end for the other lady and for me. She was confirmed on that 3 pm flight and the agent moved her to first class. I got added on standby and put in the Nbr 1 position because I was now a “rev” priority (because of the hotel voucher it seems you get a higher priority because now you are going to cost them more money) and she told all the non-rev people they needed to find something else because they would not get on that flight. The two of us went on to the next gate and waited on the flight. The agent that helped us came to us at that gate and gave the other lady the address to write Delta and a $200 voucher, and then she brought me $20 of meal vouchers just in case I needed it.
I did make it on the 3pm flight to Atlanta – we arrived about 9 pm est time. It wasn’t the best flight – first I got the hiccups on and off for the whole flight – if you know me and hiccups – we do not get along at all. Second I had the two cutest girls sitting behind me playing horses on the tray table attached to my seat – horses gallop, and kick and cantor and do all sorts of other things that prevent one from trying to sleep. And one kept asking the other if she was “yelling” and the other one said “no”. I knew what I really wanted to say but I didn’t and just tried to go to sleep.
At the end i had to figure out how to find my suitcase that I checked. It doesn’t get on the plane with you when you fly standby. It took me an hour at the Atlanta airport to find it – luckily they did send it on an earlier flight so it was there before me and all my Memento Mall purchases were safe! I took the shuttle to my car and drove the hour home. I got home just before midnight.
I slept like a rock in my own bed last night. While convention is a blast getting back home is wonderful too!
I’ll be back tomorrow with convention pictures.

Saturday is the last day of convention and while the official Stampin’ Up! events will end in the afternoon. My roommates and I are going to a Shoebox swap Saturday night. I think there are supposed to be 48 of us total. The shoebox swap works like this – everyone designs a card and brings all the supplies to make the card for everyone. For this particular swap we bring half of them completely made and half of them in pieces in a baggie. Everyone will get divided and make half of the 48 cards on Saturday night. We rotate from table to table until we are done with them all.
Here is my design:
I used the new Butterfly Prints stamp set. I love how this card turned out. I used Basic Grey, Pear Pizazz, and Whisper White as my colors. I did have to get a bit creative so that I could get enough cards out of the paper I had. It didn’t occur to me that I would run out of ribbon either. So some of the swap cards that I made up have different ribbon.
This is the new In-Color Poly-Twill ribbon and it is going to be so nice to use. It is really soft and look at what you can do – fray it! I love the look
of the frayed ends on my knot.
First tie the ribbon around the card and tie the knot. Then I carefully trimmed off the white edges up to the knot. Then pull apart the green strands and remove the white ones that are left. Fun!
For those cards that I ran out of the poly-twill ribbon I used Satin ribbon in Basic Grey or Certainly Celery which matched well to the Designer Series Paper.
The patterns papers now come in paper stacks and this is one of the new In-Colors so you get a stack of Designer Paper that includes all 6 colors and the two double-sided patterns.
I added distressing on all the layers. And the tag is cut from the Matchbox die using the Big Shot.
I really like the softness of this card and I hope everyone at the shoebox swap does too!

Jul 24, 2010 | Stampin' Up! Convention, Stampin' Up! Events |
My camera battery died on Thursday so I didn’t have a lot of pictures – I have to get some from my roommates. But I did have a couple to share with you. I took one of the convention bag – this is the bag that all the demonstrators got for attending the Stampin’ Up! Convention .
Thursday night was the awards night and the entertainment. The entertainment arrived in their bus which drove right through the convention center into the main stage area.
The entertainment was Charley Jenkins. They are a local country band from Utah. They were entertaining us with their music and the fun thing about the entertainment each year is that they must get a challenge from Shelli to do two things – they have to stamp or create something and they have to write/sing a song that is related to Stampin’ Up!. The results are always fun to hear and see. The little song was actually good and he used all the Stampin’ Up! terms correctly – maybe they give them a catalog or list of words – I’m not really sure but we always laugh.
For the craft item Charley scrapped a guitar – literally took Stampin’ Up! supplies and decorated a real acoustic guitar and then gave it away to one lucky demonstrator. How fun was that?
One of his band members is competing on America’s Got Talent – it was a young girl that plays the fiddle and she is supposed to be on the show so I guess we’ll have to look out for her.
That’s all for right now – we had a jam packed day today (Friday) and I’ll tell you more about that later.

Jul 23, 2010 | Cards, My Digital Studio, Punch Art, Stampin' Up! Events |
I joined a new demonstrator group earlier this year – a group that shares ideas and business tips. They have a dinner and swap at convention so I signed up to attend along with my 3 room mates. The card swap for had some specific rules or guidelines that I found quite challenging. I decided that the reason I waited so long to make all of my swaps for convention was because I was struggling with what to do with this one. So here are the specifics that I had to work with:
– Colors: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black, Whisper White
– Theme: Whimsical or Funny
– Royal in nature with bling
Somehow for me the whimsical/funny didn’t go with royal bling – but I thought through it and played around with various ideas until I finally came up with something and everyone I have showed my end result to has loved it! I’m so excited that they liked it and I hope the ladies I’m swapping with like it too!
Here are all the pieces of my card. It was a lot of pieces and next time I need to do a swap with not so many pieces and steps. Can you see what it is – little heads and little bodies…..
Here they are all finished – do you see the dog bones, the dog, the newspaper rolled up in his mouth?
It is my punch art dog and I forgot to take a picture of my inspiration – it is a piece of metal art that hangs on the wall by the garage door. This piece happens to have the head and legs that move so my card is supposed to resemble that – so I call it my bobble-head card.
The dog is made out of punches and the legs are dangling – they are attached with brads so they move. The head moves because I attached it to a jumbo brad that is then inserted through a hole on the embossed Cherry Cobbler layer and it rotates around.
My “bling” on my card include 3 brads on the left side and some chunky glitter – I don’t know how easily you can see it in the picture so here is a close up of his head. The nose is covered in black chunky glitter and his tongue is covered in red chunky glitter.
The newspaper in his mouth is a piece from the new News Print Designer Series paper. The tail is a thin strip of Basic Black card stock curled around a skewer to make it curl up. I shaded all the punched pieces with Black StazOn ink – for me the regular basic black looks to much like purple when I use it for sponging. I added spots cut/punched from pieces of black card stock or with a black marker.
He really is a funny little dog with a bobble-head. I’m also going to demo this card at the Udderly Awesome gathering at convention. I hope I don’t get to nervous showing it in front of people. I did pre-assemble most of the dog parts ahead of time. I’ll come back after convention and add more on the punched pieces for the dog.
And I forgot to get a picture of the inside. By the way the “Heard the News” was made using My Digital Studio and printed on card stock and punched out. I’ll show you later how to create the bone shape.
Have a “dog-gone” great day!

Jul 22, 2010 | Stampin' Up! Convention, Stampin' Up! Events |
Hi – I’m back with a quick Stampin’ Up! convention update. Wednesday was check-in day. We got our convention bags but I don’t have a picture of it – I’ll have to do that today. We took a tour at the Stampin’ Up! Corporate Offices and warehouse.

We shopped at Memento Mall – I even got to go in early for the VIP treatment for getting a recruit in early July – Thanks Sherri! They always have cute stuff that we just “have to have”. New shopping bags, a laptop bag, pens, rulers, shirts, charms, and more.
Here is Becky with some of her new shopping bags. Becky is our new roommate this year and she is from Ohio. I’m also rooming with Michele and Diane again this year and they are from Iowa.
Wednesday night we had a Groovy Flower Power Party with lots of games, face painting, demonstrations, prizes and more. Diane won one of the prizes. Michele and I tried out for the game show – the Stampin’ Up! version of Minute to Win It. I got my stack of cups done under a minute – the pictures are on Michele’s camera which I’ll get later.
We got a photo op with Shelli Garner and her husband Sterling in all our groovy attire.
I saw a lot of friends and met new ones too. We had a blast! Sign up as a demonstrator this year on my team and you can come with me next year.
Our Favorite Quote of the night “Make Cards not War.”
PEACE OUT!
