Your’e Turning 8 Project Life page

Back in May as I was preparing for my Stamp, Scrap & Create Retreat I wanted to make a Project Life page using pieces of the Hooray It’s Your Day Card Kit from the Occasions catalog.  About the same time was a challenge from the PLxSU Trio Challenge Facebook Group to focus on the cards and create a PL card (or cards).  It was the perfect challenge for what I was trying to do.  I used the pieces, parts, techniques, and layouts from the card kit to create the PL cards that I used in my page.

PL-page-1For the title I used one of the cards that had the embossed pattern on it – I spritzed the ink – Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi.  Because our cards are only 5-1/4″ long it was a bit too short for my 4×6 pocket so I added an extra piece of Daffodil Delight card stock and put some of the washi tape from the kit over the seam.  Here is a closer look:

pl-page-4For the second card – the one on the left side I used the stencil (or mask whatever you might want to call it) to get the “sunshine” background.  The rest was all from the kit and was exactly like the card.  Here is a closer look:

pl-page-3I love using those masks and can’t wait to get the new ones from the new catalog.  And if you want more balloons we have the balloon framelits that you can use to cut more of those.  I used the little file folder card and cut a piece for one pocket – it will end up with some journaling on it and the rest of the card was used on the last pocket along with all the little word window pieces and the clip.  Here is another look:

pl-page-2I had fun with the Project Life Layout – it’s my mini me – my niece at her birthday party.

Thanks for visiting today!

MDS Blog Hop

Look at me – I’m a guest on the MDS Blog Hop!!  Twice a month a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators join together to share their passion for digital designing with My Digital Studio.  And my friend Cindy asked me to join them for the month of November!  How cool is that?  I’m so excited!  These ladies are all very talented and have amazing digital projects.  So come hop along and see what everyone has created.  The theme for this week is PROJECT LIFE by MDS.  Everyone will share different ways that they have combined My Digital Studio and Project Life.

If you follow my blog or even my Facebook Page you’ll know that at the end of the summer Greg and I took a trip to Alaska.  It was a wonderful trip and we were gone for almost 2 weeks!  I took well over 1000 photos!  And I wanted to create a My Digital Studio photobook that would showcase our trip and all the photos.  I love the simplicity of Project Life and wanted to use the concept in my book.  I’ve played around with a few different things and think I finally found what I wanted.

Alaska 2014-007This page is from the first morning of our trip.  We arrived the evening before in Fairbanks and checked in to our hotel and met our tour guide.  I’m going to go back and make a page for our travel day.  My plan is to stay heavy on the photos and add journaling and other details on pages that precede each days photos.  It may change as I go along but this is my current plan.

The photo book template that I used is an older one that came out before Project Life by Stampin’ Up! started but it has all the feel of Project Life and made a good base for starting – even though I removed all the elements and changed all the boxes to be photo boxes – I even did a bit of resizing for this page.  Its called – The Best Year Photobook Template.  I did use some words from the Everyday Adventure Project Life Digital Kit.  I will be using more from that kit throughout my book.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to hop through and see the amazing things that everyone else has done with this weeks theme.  Next in line is Amber – click on the NEXT button below to hop over to her blog.  Also make sure to come back for the next hop which will be on November 20th.  I get to hop along for that one too!  Thank you ladies for letting me join you!

1487274_10201501101681785_1819447505219309930_nCindy and I also host a monthly MDS Virtual Digi Crop on Facebook – we have a group that you can join if you would like to participate along with us.  Our next date is November 11 – that’s next week.

Have fun on the MDS Blog Hop!!

My Digital Studio Virtual Digi Crop

Did you know that once a month I have a My Digital Studio Virtual Digi Crop on Facebook?  My friend Cindy and I host a virtual crop on our Facebook Group – MDS Virtual Digi Crop.  If you’d like to join the group leave me a comment here so I know to approve you.

Last night was our Virtual Crop for August and Cindy and I each had a challenge for the group.  Everyone has until tonight to make their creations and then add them to the photo album for everyone to see.  Then we choose a Pick of the Crop and you get a fun little badge to display on your own blog or Facebook page.

For last night my challenge was to create a planner – either a monthly or weekly planner.  I created both.  My weekly planner look like this –

I printed out my page and filled it in for this week.  I have a some changes I’m going to make and I’ll print a new one for next week.  I just use regular paper and keep it on my desk.  I’m planning to write my shopping list on the back for dinner each night.  I’m trying to do a better job planning out the meals for the week – I haven’t done that in many years.  We were just all so busy going in all different directions.  Now that Ryan is going off to college it will all be different.

And Cindy had us do a sketch challenge using one digital kit.  Here is my creation for her challenge.

Lots of Stars!

Here is another Make&Take project from the Stamp, Scrap & Create Retreat.  This one was designed by Cindy and uses an e-cutter to cut the stars out of the Designer Paper and also the words

.  We created both a card and a 12×12 scrapbook page using the same basic layout and the same elements.

The gold sequins add a little sprinkle of gold throughout each project.

My Digital Studio Virtual Crop Challenges

Have you heard about the My Digital Studio Virtual Crops that my friend Cindy and I are hosting on Facebook?  We have done a few now and they have been so much fun!  In just a few weeks the participation and members in our group have grown!  And we have people joining us from all over the WORLD – how exciting is that!  We love this software product from Stampin’ Up! and are eager to share and encourage everyone to use it.  Just try it!

Last week we had our April Virtual Crop and Cindy and I each had a challenge for the group.  Mine was much easier than hers!  I made two samples for mine – here they are –

fb birthdays-014

fb birthdays-013

Mine are both cards and the challenge was to take an element and repeat it on your project and then use the Align Feature to line them all up and space them all evenly.

And here is my creation for Cindy’s challenge –

cindy challenge - 2 page layout

She gave us a sketch that was a 2 page layout and we needed to create it as a photo book and use the 2 page view, we had to include ribbon elements, and a quote – and the quote was to be made up of different fonts/texts or cropped words.  Well I left out the last part – my quote is all one font, but I did have another font on my page.  You can’t tell in this shot but since my photo and my quote cross between the two pages they are actually in my layout twice – once on each page.  The double page view allowed me to line everything up because I could see both pages as a spread at the same time!  And believe it or not I was even able to attach my quote to my circle punch shape that the photo is in and got it lined up correctly – I wasn’t sure it would work but it did!  I just took a photo snip of my screen so you could see the two pages all line up together.

We also had our “pick of the crop” for those that tried the challenges and submitted their creations to our photo album.  There was one pick for each challenge and they get to display this cute badge on their blog or Facebook page to show that they were the “pick of the crop”.

MDS Virtual Badge-001If you would like to join us next month then you need to join our group on Facebook – MDS Virtual Digi Crop.  Leave me a comment here and let me know you plan to join,  ask to join the group on FB, and then I’ll approve you.

I hope to see you there when we have our next Virtual Crop – it should be in May sometime – a date will be posted in the group once we schedule it.

Welcome Spring Scrapbook Layout

We are in full spring mode around here and I’m so happy!  I love spring!  For my March scrapbook class I created this Welcome Spring two-page layout.

welcome-spring-scrapbook

It features the Afternoon Tea Designer Series paper – I used it for the border and the flowers. This is such a pretty pack of paper that I had kind of overlooked in the catalog.  It’s perfect for Spring and it may look a bit familiar – we had another pack in a past catalog with the same designs just a different color combination.

Let’s take a little closer look at this layout –

  • The base is Soft Suede 12×12 card stock
  • The Pear Pizzazz pieces are where your photos will go – either collage them or mat them or line them up all the way across the layout.
  • The border along the bottom is made with the Banner punch that was in the Sale-A-Bration brochure – it will be returning in our next annual catalog – so keep your eye out for it.  I punched pieces of the Afternoon Tea Designer Paper and randomly placed them along the bottom of the Pear Pizzazz pieces.  Over the top is a piece of the Burlap Ribbon – I cut mine into 4 strips.  I also added little flowers from the Punch Pack in the coordinating colors.  welcome-spring-border
  • I used the Pansy Punch was used to punch the flowers from the Designer paper and also from Pear Pizzazz card stock (those become the leaves underneath).  Curl them all a little.  Punch Soft Suede bitty flowers with the punch from the Punch Pack.  Layer the flowers – a bitty flower, designer paper flower and card stock flower then use a paper piercer to put holes in the center and add a silver mini brad to each.
  • Cut a frame with the On Film Framelits from Very Vanilla card stock for the left page.  Tie a piece of Linen Thread around the side of the frame.  I love Linen Thread.  welcome-spring-detail
  • I used the Two-Step Bird punch to make the bird and branch.  Sponge the Very Vanilla bird with Wisteria Wonder ink.  And an eye with the Soft Suede marker.  The branch is Pear Pizzazz.  I used some strands from the burlap ribbon to put under the birds beak – like he is carrying straw to build a nest.  Yeah – that’s what has been going on in my yard.
  • On the right page there is a journaling tag.  Use a 2″ strip of Very vanilla and punch with the Scallop Tag Topper punch.  Add a piece of Pear Pizzazz ribbon tied on with Linen Thread.  Add a strip of the designer paper and one of the flowers to the tag.  welcome-spring-tag
  • Add the photos and journaling to finish the page.

Now I need to print some photos to put on my layout.  I got some really good shots around the yard the last few days.
