I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! We did. And much to our surprise we got SNOW on Christmas Day! The news reported here in metro Atlanta it has been more than 100 years since there has been any measurable snow in the area. It started snowing in the morning on Christmas Day and we had plans to drive to my parents after lunch and spend the night with them. We quickly packed up and headed out so that we would be on the front end of the snow instead of in the middle of the storm. We had drove for about 90 minutes and it snowed almost the whole way. At my parents house though – they are near the lake and it was several degrees warmer so there was no snow on the ground. And it wasn’t until after dark that any snow started sticking to the grass and trees.
Christmas Day in the afternoon – we were with my family – my parents, my brother and his family and in-laws and Greg’s mom came with us too. Here is a picture of my parents with their 5 grandchildren.
The next morning there was a light snow at my parents house – I did get this pretty picture looking out from the porch by the front door and back up the street to their house.
We waited until Sunday afternoon and then headed home. I did have to call my mom and tell her everywhere else – even a mile up the road there was more snow than what they had at their house. I guess the lake made a big enough difference in the temperature. The drive home was fine – most of the roads were dry because the sun was out and it was very windy. But we got to our house and late in the afternoon it started snowing again and we played outside a little bit.

Enjoy your day! We are going tonight to have Christmas with Greg’s family. His sister and family came in to town last night – dodging snow storms along the way – I’m not sure how the adventure was for them but they came from VA and somewhere along the way should have encounter the storm that was coming from us and moving up the east coast.

Tyler is in the Show Choir this year and they had their first performance last week.
They performed Footloose as the opening song. Tyler has the Tempting Turquoise polo shirt on.

Later in the night they performed a Lion King medley. In this one he has on the Black overcoat.

It was a great show. We also heard the Int. and Adv. Chorus groups sing too. Everyone did a phenomenal job and the auditorium was full! Greg and I sat in the front row so he was able to get some good video too. We were both very proud of Tyler for trying something new and doing so well!
I’ll post my bingo piece a little bit late today so check back.

Tuesday night we went to the high school to see Tyler in the his first Show Choir performance. He did such a good job. In middle school he did Drama Club for a short time and was in Chorus for one semester. So he is not very experienced in Chorus so I was excited to see the performance. It was great – his group performed the opener – Footloose and then later in the evening they performed a Lion King medley. Greg video taped it and I took some pictures – I haven’t downloaded them yet – I hope they turned out.
I have heard that we have someone close to Bingo….will this be the day…

Saturday was a busy day – the boys had their first band competition of the season. The are in the Etowah High School band. We were gone most of the afternoon and evening. I thought the band did an awesome job. Tyler played his solo at the beginning of the show. There was only one oops during the show – at one point the guard girls go in between the band players. Well during the show one of the girls had her flag down (she was supposed to) while passing between the band members, one boy stepped on the edge of her flag as she was lifting it up and she pulled his feet right out from under him – luckily he recovered quickly and the show went on! The got a superior rating and a 2nd place trophy only a couple of points behind the first place team – which of course is our rival high school. But it was a good show and everyone was proud of what they had done. They were told to rest for the next two days and then on Tuesday it is back to business because the next competition is next Saturday.
Anyway I’m just posting Bingo for today – I may come back later on Sunday and add a stamping project. Have a great end to your weekend!
We are continuing with Monika’s Blog Bingo – let’s play….

It was news to me when I found out that there is no school today! I don’t ever remember them having a day off school in October. But this year we do – I guess it is a way for the schools to save some money. So I thought I would post about my boys today. I have to take photos of my stamping projects that I have to share and I didn’t do that on Sunday – but I did clean up my craft room. I reorganized my 12×12 card stock, cleaned up my desk and work table and I’m going to do my best to work on one project AND clean it up before starting a new one.

GT Convocation
So today I have pictures of my boys that I took this past week (well Kyle’s are older pictures). Kyle was home this weekend – he came home Friday afternoon with Greg and I took him back to school Sunday morning so he could be back for Programming Team. He is part of the Ga Tech Programming Team and it sounds like they are preparing for a competition in November. I do have to go get him again this afternoon for a Dctr appt and then we’ll take him back tonight after dinner. Kyle is doing well at Tech – that is what he tells us and he likes his classes – even says that some of them are fun. I think the only one he doesn’t much care for is Health – which is a required class. I keep telling him to bring home his laundry including his bed sheets – and he says it’s all clean that he just washed – ok – I guess he is on top of things!
Here are two old pictures – one from the Convocation Ceremony which was the Sunday before classes started in August. The new students get their GT RAT caps along with a lesson on what to put on their cap.
And the other is the day we moved Kyle into his dorm. We ended up raising the bed and later he bought a futon that is now underneath the bed. And a couple of weeks ago they added a TV to their room. I’m not sure how much they actually use it to watch TV but they use it for their gaming. Kyle and Robert seem to be getting along just fine.
This
last week was busy for Tyler and Ryan and the Marching Band. And the rest of the month will be too. They started with the Homecoming Parade on Monday. Then Tuesday was the county Band Exhibition. All the county bands play their show for each other and a set of judges so they can get an idea of what they need to work on for the competitions the rest of the month. I’m so excited that Tyler starts their show with a solo. Here is a picture of him from Tuesday night – he is on the 50 yard line playing his solo and he did such a good job. I was so worried because up until then the afternoon wasn’t going very well for him. First there was the shoe disaster. As they are getting into their seats before getting ready to leave I see Tyler heading out of the band room (I was there as a chaperone). I run over to see what he is doing – he says he has to get his shoes out of the car – they are not in his locker. So I take his keys and go to his car because he should be in his seat. I search the car – NO SHOES! I run
back inside to tell him – he says they must be at home. Well we are about to load the buses so now what – I don’t have time to go home. We go to the uniform room and look through boxes of old shoes – the biggest pair we can find is a size 7 – Tyler says he’ll squeeze his feet in. Then I remember grandma is planning to come – quick call to her to go by our house first and find his shoes. Grandma’s are great – let me tell you. She goes to our house, searches his room, finds a pair of shoes and heads towards the school – we are already leaving but she sees us and follows us all the way to the competition. I run out and get the shoes – size 9 – they still aren’t his new shoes but they are better than the 7s. That is what he marches in and when we get back I find 10s in the band directors office (they were there the whole time!). But that wasn’t the only disaster – once they get to the competition and unload the buses – everyone gets their instruments and lines up. I see Tyler with two other students talking to the band director. The band director is NOT HAPPY! Apparently the other two don’t have their instruments – they left them behind! But Tyler is the section leader and it is his job to make sure everyone has everything – well we know how well that was going with the shoe disaster already going on. So with all that I was so afraid he would mess up the solo. But he didn’t – I was so thankful and very proud that he did so well.
It was also Ryan’s first exhibition performance – which is a warm up for the competition. He is in the pit and right up at the front on the side line playing. I was very proud of him too – he did so well. I don’t know how they play with four mallets at one time but he did that part of the time. I like this picture of him – he is so focused on the Drum Major waiting for his cue.
I am really glad to have Ryan and Tyler in the marching band. I really encourage everyone to have their kids try it – just let them try for a year. You’d be surprised at how much they learn not just about music – but discipline, leadership, team work, friendships and so much more. They start high school with a whole bunch of friends from all grade levels which makes the transition to high school so much better. It has been such a good thing for Tyler these last 3 years. And let me tell you both boys said they didn’t want to do it. I made them go anyway – all it took was one day at band camp and never another complaint. Ryan even tells me how glad he is that I made him try it – I hear that about once a week right now – really!
In a little while I’ll get out the new list of Bingo players and send out the Bingo cards. So if you are in Group 5 of Monika’s Blog Bingo be sure to check your email later today. We will start tomorrow!
Have a great day!

We have been gone for the last three days in Macon, Georgia. Oh my gosh was it HOT! I don’t think I have ever been that hot before, it was almost suffocating, like sitting in an oven. The temperature was about 100 degrees that was before you count the heat index. Why would we do this? Ryan and his tennis team were playing in the USTA Junior Team Tennis Georgia State Championships. Shade was hard to find and when there was some everyone was trying to get in it. We went through lots of water, gatorade, and clothes. Even just sitting and watching we were soaked in sweat.

The Towne Lake Hills U-14 Team
The team played really well on Friday – with two sets of matches behind them they were in first place and had only lost 1 game for the day (that was one of Ryan and Brandt’s). So they were in first place at the end of the day.
Saturday they had two more teams to tackle and these were a little but tougher. Some of the kids lost their match but the team over all won in points. So at the end of the day we weren’t sure but assumed that kept them either in first place or in second depending on the results of the other teams.
Saturday night we went to dinner and then to one of the hotels to play. The kids played in the pool until a storm came in and then they decided to play “hotel tag”.
Hmmm….the other people staying at the hotel probably wondered why there were a dozen kids running around unattended and what bad parents we were.
The parents were in the lobby playing games! I’m not sure what games they were one you had this white plastic man that gave you a word and you had to draw on him or this other white plastic piece and get your team to guess the word. The other was like a hot potato and it also gave you a word and you had to describe it without saying the word. So we had our fun while the kids had theirs.
Sunday morning was a pivotal match with only one team advancing to the finals and we thought we were still in first going in – most of the scores were posted except for one. Coach Donna sent the kids out to play and when they were done they finished 1st in their group and advanced to the final round for Sunday afternoon.
The final match didn’t go so well for our team – and they ended up 2nd with Finalist trophies. But they really played some great tennis on an extremely HOT weekend. Even though they lost Ryan said the last match was the funnest of them all since the team they played was better which made them play harder.
Congratulations to the whole team for a job well done!
