I created some Halloween cards this week for my card class with the ladies at KSU. Since the KSU mascot is an owl I knew one of the cards had to feature an owl. And as it happened the color challenge at Create with Connie & Mary this week turned out to be the same colors I used for my card. I’m so excited as it has been a long time since I played along with a challenge!

And a few details about my card –
- Summer Starfruit card base
- A piece of the Witches Brew Designer Series paper
- A piece of Basic Black that has been embossed with the Wood Grain Embossing Folder and the Big Shot
- a 1-3/4″ circle punch of Summer Starfruit – sponged with Summer Starfruit
- the OWL punch – Crumb Cake for the base, Witches Brew paper for the belly, Summer Starfruit and Basic Black for the eyes and the white dots were made with the Chalk marker
- a Very Vanilla banner – stamped with Happy Halloween from Delightful Dozen – I colored in the pumpkin and closed letters with a Summer Starfruit marker – I wanted it to look like a candle glowing behind like a jack-o-lantern.
- tied with a piece of Summer Starfruit ribbon

Well this is my last Create with Connie & Mary challenge card. It has been a fun time each week with the sketch and colors challenges. I’ll be doing something different for the month of April and then with a busy few months through the summer I don’t plan to be on any challenge teams for a while. Connie & Mary will have some new designers on the challenge team and they have a new Card class going on to so be sure to check out what they are doing.
This week at Create with Connie & Mary we were issued a sketch challenge!
I created an Easter card actually a few weeks ago and now I can’t remember if I made it based on this sketch or if it just conveniently worked out that way 🙂 – I think I’m getting old because I really can’t remember. So here it is –
It’s a perfect match to that sketch don’t you think? But it is a twist since it is an Oval shaped card – I love it! I made use of the Oval Framelits for all the layers on the card.
Here are the are some details –
- Cut a piece of Lucky Limeade card stock – 4-1/4 x 11 and score at 5-1/2″ – fold it in half and position it on the Big Shot with the large scallop oval framelit – you want the folded edge to be below the top of the oval so that it doesn’t get cut – this creates the folded base of the card.
- Cut a Chocolate Chip Oval with the next size oval and then cut a piece of the Tea for Two Designer Series Paper with the next size smaller. Layer these two together.
- Cut a strip of Chocolate Chip card stock and glue it across the layered ovals – then trim the ends along the oval shape.
- Tie a piece of Linen Thread around the strip – I used some snail on the back side to help hold it in place so it didn’t slip. I tied the bow to the left side where I added a Designer Builder Brad. The brad has a punch out from the designer paper in the center – covered by the clear bubble. Punch a hole through the layered oval and add the brad.
- Attach the layered oval to the front of the oval card base. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- Stamp Happy Easter (from Teeny Tiny Wishes) and cut with the Itty Bitty Banner Framelit – then attach to the front of the card.
- A beautiful egg shaped Easter card!
I’m spending the rest of the week getting ready for Easter – I will have 30 people here for lunch – mostly extended family and a few friends. I’m not sure we will have an egg hunt though – all the kids have grown up most are in college now – we have a few high schoolers but no little kids here this year. I may need to come up with some games to play instead.

I’m wrapping up my stay with Create with Connie & Mary – I have just a couple more projects to share for the weekly challenge team. It has been fun and I’ve enjoyed seeing the creations every week. Thanks for letting me be part of the fun.
This week at Create with Connie & Mary we were issued a color challenge! Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist, and Not Quite Navy – they make me think of summer and water – so naturally I thought of the Oh, Whale! stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Spring catalog.
Now that I had my colors and knew I wanted to use the Oh, Whale stamp set I had to decide what to do with it. I have wanted for the last few months to make the little envelopes that are shown in the Sale-A-Bration brochure. I had many people ask how are those made. Well it’s really hard – you use the Big Shot and the Scallop Envelope Die and fold in the top, then the bottom, then one side and it’s done. Really – that easy! Not hard at all. The little envelope is just folded up so the decorative flap becomes one of the sides that is tucked in.
Here are the are some more details –
- Cut Daffodil Delight card stock with the scallop envelope die and the Big Shot. I went ahead and folded it all together the way I wanted to make the pocket. Then ran it through with the Cloudy Day embossing folder. Then I went back and added a little bit of Tomobow glue to hold it all shut – I guess I could have added that before embossing – but I didn’t do it that way.
- I stamped the whale in Not Quite Navy on Whisper White card stock and cut it out with the Happy Whale Clearlits die – isn’t it the cutest thing? I added a tiny silver mini brad for his eye.
- Tie a piece of the Marina Mist Striped Organdy Ribbon around the pocket then add the whale on with some dimensionals.
- I cut a piece of Marina Mist card stock to slide inside the pouch. I added a whale clip to the end of it. And on the card I added a little banner.
- The words are from the Oh, Whale stamp set and then cut with the Itty Bitty Banner framelits.
- Write a sweet little note and give it to someone special!

Easter is sneaking up really fast! I made invitations last week and mailed them all out to our family to invite them over for lunch on Easter Sunday. It is always a fun day to get the extended family all together in one place. So with Easter on my mind I decided to make something with that theme using this weeks challenge.
This week at Create with Connie & Mary we were issued a sketch challenge!
I wanted to create a little box for my class this Friday so I thought I would use the sketch as the basis for the box design. And here is the end result –
As you can see it pretty much follows the sketch. I decided to use the scallops on the outside and layered squares on the inside – that’s kind of the opposite of what’s on the sketch – so maybe you can say I turned it inside out. And instead of a button I have an egg and a collection of little bunnies on the side.
Here are the details on this box –
- The front and back of the box are the Scallop Square Bigz Die – and on the front I pierced a hole in each scallop.
- Between the two scallop squares I made myself a box – same idea as last weeks project (and I guess I’m still stuck on last weeks color challenge too – I used basically those same colors again). This box is just bigger.
- A layer of Summer Starfruit card stock and a piece of the designer paper from Birds of a Feather.
- The bunnies are from Ears to You – one of the single stamps – I stamped them in Crumb Cake, Summer Starfruit and Raspberry Ripple and cut them out. I added a tiny pearl eye to each one and then one got a dahlia tail!
- Behind the bunnies I punched an oval from Primrose Petals card stock and used the piercing template to pierce around it.
- I tied Whisper White Baker’s Twine around the front layer.
- There is a little Happy Easter tag.
- And a Summer Starfruit ribbon handle.
- Fill with your favorite treat and give to someone special!

Have you played with the new All Dressed Up Framelits from Stampin’ Up!? I wasn’t sure that I wanted these (I have all boys so I don’t do much girly stuff) but once I started to play with them – well it was really hard to resist having fun!
This week at Create with Connie & Mary we were issued a color challenge! And I decided I could use those colors to make a cute little dress project that I think you will love. It’s based on an idea that I saw in a magazine – you may have seen it to. But I of course wanted to use my Stampin’ Up! products and the Dressed Up Framelits to make mine. Here are the colors we are working with this week –
Are you ready to see this little cutie? Here it is –
I’m not sure you can quite tell from this front view but it is actually a little box – I’ll show you a side view in a second. The inside is filled with just a few little kisses that have designer paper on the bottoms.
Here are the details on this box –
- first I cut a piece of Raspberry Ripple card stock and scored it – folded it and placed it so that the dress die did NOT cut through the shoulders – I wanted this part to stay connected like a card.
- I took a second piece of Razzberry Ripple and cut another dress, then cut off just the skirt and embossed it with the Fancy Fan embossing folder – positioned so it did not emboss the scallops at the bottom of the dress – I layered this on top of my folded dress as the top layer
- next I used the Primrose Petals card stock and cut two dresses – cutting away the skirt and glueing those to the inside as a bottom layer on the front and back of the dress.
- for the box I cut a piece of Primrose Petals card stock – it is 2″ x 5-1/2″ – it is scored at 1″ on the short side and 1″, 2-1/2″, 3-1/2″ and 5″ – and made into a tiny box. I glued this to the inside of the folded dress.
- I tied a piece of Summer Starfruit ribbon around the front of the dress – leaving long tails that I cut at the ends
- I added the tiny pearls along the base of the dress and up at the top for some bling.
- The kisses are covered with paper from the Print Poetry paper stack punched with the 3/4″ circle punch and attached with a glue dot.
- You could make these little dress boxes as party favors for any little girly occasion – change the colors to suit the occasion. Fun!

Can you believe that March is about to be here? Where did February go? I think it just went poof! If time flies when you are having fun then I must be having a whole lot of FUN! And today I have a cute little creation to get you all ready for St. Patrick’s Day which will be here any minute. This week at Create with Connie & Mary we were issued a sketch challenge! What to do. What to do. Here is the sketch for this week and once you see my card you will see that you can use this sketch for anything.
I finally decided since March got here so fast if I was going to do a St. Patrick’s Day card I better go ahead and get it done for my Card Maker’s class this week because when I have the next one it will be too late. So that was the direction I went – on a search for ideas for St. Patrick’s Day.
Here are the details on this card –
- card base is Crumb Cake – stamp the greeting in the lower right corner
- Stamp the clover image on Whisper White card stock and punch out with the 1″ square punch
- Color the clovers with a Lucky Limeade Stampin’ Write Marker
- punch from Lucky Limeade card stock with the Postage Stamp punch
- Tie Lucky Limeade Baker’s Twine around the front of the card and tie in a bow.
- Layer the clovers on the stamps and add to the card with stampin’ dimensionals
- And the final touch is a little bit of sparkle – I used Dazzling Details on each clover.
- Now you have something to make for St. Patrick’s Day!

This is my attempt at trying to encourage spring to get here – we are having lots of rain, and I really want the sun, which should bring the flowers and the bees to pollinate everything….come on spring get here faster!
