Desktop Calendar for 2010

Happy Monday!  I wish I could say that I’m home alone and everyone is back to school and work – but that is not the case.  School was cancelled again today – it would help if our temps would get above freezing so all the ice would melt.  Very unusual for us to stay below freezing for more than 1 day and it has been I think 5.  That is the problem we get a little snow, then we get a little sun and it melts and then it freezes and we end up with roads covered in sheets of ice.  All the main roads are pretty driveable but the secondary roads, neighborhoods and school roads apparently have enough ice to close school again today.  We are at the south end of the county so while we are probably all good here the northern part of the county isn’t.  Tyler and Ryan did get to give Kyle  a hard time because he did have to go to school today.  Maybe tomorrow everyone will be on a normal schedule.

So enough rambling….my project I want to share today is from my Desktop Calendar class.  I had the class on Dec. 30th – but half of the class was sick so I had it again the first week of January.  I’m working on adding all the pictures to mine – I hope to finish that tomorrow.  So today I’ll just share one month that has a picture and I’ll show you the rest later.

June calendar page

This 2010 calendar uses the Stampin’ Up! Days-To-Remember Calendar on page 159 of the catalog (#104144).  There are 2 pages for each month – one to put a 6″ x 6″ scrapbook page on and the other is the monthly grid.  All the pages are perforated and if you put them in the correct order (there is a map to follow) at the end of the year you can take them out and put them in a 6″ x 6″ scrapbook for a year in review album.  Throughout the year you can have the calendar sit on your desk since it had a built in stand.

My scrapbook pages are designed to hold a 3-1/2″ tall by 5″ wide photo (or two smaller width photos). You could fill your calendar with old pictures or add them as you go along for the current year.  I think I’m going to do a combination and just write a caption under each photo with the who, when, where, what information.  Right now I found that Wolf Camera/Ritz Camera has 6 cents prints (3-1/2 x 5) on Tues and Wed – for 1 hour pickup.  So this is what I do – I find the pictures I want to print and upload to their site and then print them on Tues/Wed.  These are the perfect size for this project.

I used the new Sweet Pea Designer Paper Stack from the Occasions Mini Catalog throughout the calendar and took all the colors from those papers.   Most of the months have embellishments that were either punched or cut with the Big Shot and a few are stamped.  The Calendar grid uses the Calendar Alphabet & Numbers stamp set for all the numbering.  I used the Holiday Blitz stamp set on the grid to add images for the holidays and also used other stamp sets when I needed different images – the Family Accessories and Family Accessories Too sets have nice small images for this including a lot of the sports and activities that the kids do.

I hope you like it.  Thanks for visiting me today.

And now more about my cute little project – I had something different in mind and when I started with my first idea things just started heading in a different direction. I ended up with this cute little Hugs & Kisses holder using some new Stampin’ Up! products from the Occasions Mini Catalog instead.

Are you wondering where the “hugs & kisses” phrase came from on the little tag?  It’s on the I {Love} Love Jumbo Wheel.  I just used a Real Red Stampin’ Write marker to color just that part of the wheel – wheeled it on Whisper White card stock and punched it out with the large oval punch.  Cute isn’t it?  You have a whole bunch of different ways to say “Love” using the parts of that jumbo wheel.

To make the little holder I cut a Scallop Square using my Big Shot and the clear die.  Then I used my paper trimmer with the scoring blade to score in between every three scallops in both directions – it creates a tic-tac-toe board.  Then on the four corners make a diagonal score from the outside corner to the inside corner.  Now fold on all the score lines – punch holes in the four diagonals and pull a piece of ribbon through to tie it shut.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:

Stamps: I {Heart} Hearts, I {Love} Love Jumbo Wheel

Ink: Real Red ink & Stampin’ Write marker, Chocolate Chip ink

Card Stock: Real Red, Whisper White

Accessories: Sending Love Specialty Designer Series Paper, Big Shot die Cut Machine, Scallop Square Clear Bigz Die,  Red Gingham Ribbon, Stampin’ Sponge, Paper Trimmer w/Scoring Blade, 1/8″ hand held punch, Heart to Heart Punch, Small Heart Punch, Large Oval Punch, Scalloped Oval Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you like it!  We will be making this project at my January I {Heart} Hearts class.

Leave me a comment today for a chance to win a Free Pass to the Create with Connie & Julie class – good luck!

Dasher Treat Cup Ornament

This cute little ornament was designed by my upline Wendy Randall.  I just loved it when I made it at her house and used it for my class on Friday as well.  It is an ornament but could also be used as a gift tag.  I am also making a snowman version – I don’t have a picture of that one yet so I’ll have to show it tomorrow.

This uses the Stampin’ Up! Dasher stamp – what a great deal and very popular too!

And the treat cups that are in the Stampin’ Up! holiday mini catalog and these will also be in the new Occasions Mini Catalog that will begin on Jau. 5th along with a new stamp set to use it with.

The Big Shot was used to cut two Scallop circles from the Scallop Circle #2 die – it is the large circle of the two on the die.  Then use the Big Shot again Stampin’ Up! Perfect Details Texturz Plate to add the swirly texture on each piece.

Sponge with Chocolate Chip ink to bring out the texture and we also sponged the scallops around the circle.  Then add the white dots with the gel pen.  Use the 1-3/4″ Circle punch to punch a hole in one of the circles – the hole is not in the center – so the bottom is bigger than the top edge – we pushed the punch in as far as it would reach and lined it up from side to side in the center.

Stamp Dasher in Chocolate Chip ink on Whisper White card stock.  Add Dazzling Diamonds glitter to his antlers with a 2-way glue pen if you like.  The “snow” in the cup is Tapioca – so put a little in the sweet treat cup – remove the adhesive from the cup and attach the cup over the stamped dasher.  To do this I held the cup and the card stock above me so I could see where I was putting it – you may also be able to set the cup on the table and “see through” the white card stock to position it.

Then put the scallop circle with the hole over the sweet treat cup and trim off any white card stock that shows.  Use a little bit of adhesive to hold the scallop to the sweet treat cup.  On the second scallop circle I used the Tombow mutli-purpose adhesive and then glued that to the back matching it to the one in the front.

To finish add a piece of the red polka dot ribbon and silver cord for a hanger.

It is really cute!  Thanks Wendy for sharing it with me.

Have a wonderful day!

Snowflake Fancy Favor Box

This is a super quick project if you are in need of a little box for a last minute gift.  The Big Shot machine and our Stampin’ Up! punches make this so easy.

Use a 6″ x 12″ piece of Real Red card stock and run it through the Big Shot with the Stampin’ Up! Fancy Favor Bigz XL die.  It cuts the box and makes all the score lines for you and the top edge has a fancy edge so it really dresses up this simple box.

Then I used the Jumbo Snowflake punch to punch a snowflake out of the front panel of the box – I pushed the punch in as far as it would go.  Carefully remove the punch so you don’t pull off any of the small delicate pieces of the snowflake.  Here is where I came up with what I thought was a neat idea – I thought the box was too plain with just the snowflake punched out so as I sat there I took the punched out piece and put it back (thinking I would do a different idea) but when I did that the edges of the snowflake popped up some while the center remained flush with the box.  Hmmm…. now that looked much better to me but I needed something to hold the center of the snowflake in place.  Back to my punch collection – I pulled out the 3/4″ Circle punch and punched a Real Red circle.  Using a bit of Tombow Multipurpose adhesive (my new favorite thing to use can you tell) I glued the circle to the inside of the box in the very center of the snowflake and then put the punched out snowflake back in and glue it only in the center.  Hold it there for just a few seconds.   Then I put a square piece of Whisper White card stock on the inside of the box behind the snowflake and ta-da – a pretty snowflake box!

To finish the box I added the Mistletoe Ribbon Originals – the Whisper White ribbon stitched with the Real Red – I added a handle – used the crop-a-dile to punch the holes in each side.  I did not fold in on the side gussets I left those alone so I could have a straight box.  I also added the ribbon around the bottom of the box.

And some of the girls sprayed their box with the Shimmer Paint spray (rubbing alcohol mixed with the shimmer paint).  The Shimmer Paint by the way will still be available after the Holiday Mini catalog ends – it will be a write-in-item for the regular catalog – yeah!

Last was to add a white half pearl from the Pretties Kit to the very center of the snowflake.  Everyone said this was the fastest project that they had made.  This was part of my Holiday Tags & More class that  I had yesterday.  We had fun and ate chocolates that Sue shared – yes, Sue, we ate a lot more last night!  Everyone says thanks for the chocolates!

I still have lots of Christmas stuff to do – cards to mail, presents to wrap, a few more gifts to finish making and maybe one more to buy.  I need to make a cake and plan Christmas breakfast so I still have another trip to the grocery store this week.

I think this is my project #9 for the Late Night Stampers 12 days of Christmas challenge.  Just a few more to share…..

Bye for now!

Tin of Ornament Tags

Well yesterday got away from me and by the time I was ready last night to try to post our internet connection wasn’t working….so I’ll try to post twice today once now and again later.

This Friday (well I guess now that is tomorrow) I have my December class and it is themed “Holiday Tags & More” – I wanted everyone to make some quick little projects to finish up their gift wrapping.  So we’ll be making some tag projects, a cute ornament and a little box.  I designed the tin full of Ornament Tags for the class – but unfortunately it won’t be part of the class on Friday.  Why?  Well when I went to get out more tins I only had 2 left – I don’t know what happened to all the others that I had.  Actually, now that I’m thinking about it those were the tins I used for the holiday bazaar a couple of months ago – that must have been where they went.  Well darn – it is a beautiful project so you will just have to recreate it at home.  I suppose you can just make the tags without the tin maybe we’ll do that instead – once it was empty you could use it to hold a gift card.  So it was a double duty project – tags and a gift card holder…..

Stampin’ Up! Supplies that I used:

  • Christmas Cocoa Specialty Designer Series Paper
  • Delightful Decorations stamp set
  • Ornament Punch
  • Real Red card stock and classic ink
  • Soft Suede card stock and classic ink
  • Stampin’ Dimensionals
  • 3/4″  and 1″ circle punch, 1/16″ and 1/8″ handheld circle punch
  • silver cord
  • Real Red Grosgrain Ribbon
  • Tombow Multipurpose Adhesive
  • Corner Rounder punch

Other Supplies:

  • metal tin – like an Altoids tin
  • white embroidery thread

This project features the Ornament Punch – if you don’t already have this punch and it is on your wish list order soon – it is in the Holiday Mini Catalog which ends on January 4th.  It may not be available again after that – Stampin’ Up! hasn’t told us yet.  I hope it is because there are many other things you can do with this punch.  And I haven’t had the chance to try them all or share them all either.

For the Late Night Stamper’s 12 Days of Christmas challenge – this is my Day 6 project.

Happy Stampin’!
