Polar Bear Punch Art

I saw this cute card last winter and saved it because I wanted to use the idea later.  Well now was the time it became part of my Punch Art class this month.  The creator of the punch art polar bears is Laura Lipe.  This is my version that I created for the class.

Aren’t they cute?

My card is a Baja Breeze base (we used Bashful Blue in the class because I ran out of Baja Breeze).  The background is stamped with snowflakes.  The snow banks are a piece of torn Whisper White card stock that is sponged on the edges.

For the Polar Bears all the pieces are punched from Whisper White card stock, sponged with Sahara Sand ink and also distressed on the edges ( so they look furry).  I gave everyone a 1/4 sheet of Whisper White card stock and had them punch the pieces out and save it for a guide for later.  So this is what you have left.

Now you have an easy guide to see what pieces you need.  The ornament punch is the head of the large bear – the top of the ornament is cut off.  The large oval is the nose of the large bear – you can either stick it back in the punch to nip it off or cut it with scissors.  The small oval is the nose of the small bear.  By the way I am using the old punch names.  Did you realize the names of some of the punches changed?  They did when they switched to the new style.  Which reminds me I was going to write a post to explain something about the new punches – I’ll have to do that this week too.

For punch art I use the 2-way glue pen and a pair of craft tweezers – these are a great tool to have – too bad we don’t sell these anymore (although the old SU kind were too bulky anyway) – maybe we’ll get a better version next year.

Ok now it is time for Bingo… oh by the way I realized I started numbering the pieces wrong – I skipped #4 for some reason.  So today’s piece is really #9.

Let’s play….

Monogram card set

Tuesday night we went to the high school to see Tyler in the his first Show Choir performance.  He did such a good job.  In middle school he did Drama Club for a short time and was in Chorus for one semester.  So he is not very experienced in Chorus so I was excited to see the performance.  It was great – his group performed the opener – Footloose and then later in the evening they performed a Lion King medley.  Greg video taped it and I took some pictures – I haven’t downloaded them yet – I hope they turned out.

I have heard that we have someone close to Bingo….will this be the day…

Friends Fur-ever Treat box

This little project is an idea that came straight from the Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog.  On page 75 is the Friends Fur-ever stamp set.  And right above it is this cute little box.  Now I made a few changes to my version.  First I used different colors.  Mine actually came from the Color Coach.  I pulled the So Saffron card and on the back is the Sweet Set combination of So Saffron, Riding Hood Red and Soft Suede.  A perfect combination for this project in my opinion!

I stamped in Jet Black StazOn ink and did some watercoloring and some cutting out.  Yes that little bone is a pain to cut out but I think it is so cute popped up and tied with the linen thread.  Not everyone in my class did that part.  I did show them how to do the masking technique for this.  Basically you stamp the little wagon first on your card stock.  Then stamp it again on a post-it note and cut it out right along the lines – you don’t want to leave any edge for this technique.  Then cover your image on the card stock with the post it note so you can stamp the bones so they look like they are inside the wagon.

Then the other fun thing I did was stamp the bone on the twill ribbon – instant matching ribbon!

Fill this little box with some dog treats for your new neighbors!  Won’t they think your the best when you bring something for their dog!

The box by the way is the Box #2 XL die for the Big Shot.  Have fun!

Let’s play Bingo…..

It’s BINGO TIME!  We are playing Round 4 of Monika’s Blog Bingo.  I’m currently taking names for Round 6.   See this POST for more details on how to join, how to play and the Round 1, 2, and 3 winners.

Here is piece #5  –the cupcake image from Cute by the Inch stamp set (stamped in Chocolate Chip).

Dog Treat Jar

This project was one from my Love Your Pets class.  Its a treat jar – mine is decorated for a dog but I gave the class the option of doing a dog or cat.  We used the D is for Dog and C is for Cat stamp sets.  And the jars are decorated with the new Stampin’ Up! fabric in Holiday Mini Catalog and the Big Buttons.

I used one of the fabric patterns from the Deck the Halls bundle and the coordinating Big Designer Buttons.  The fabric is torn into strips and wrapped around the jar to overlap the ends.  Then I used Linen Thread to tie around it and hold it tight and then I put one of the big buttons on it.  So its not a fabric sewing project but it is a fabric project!

The lid is decorated with elements from the D is for Dog stamp set.  And the new 2″ Circle punch is exactly the right size for the top of the jar – these were the regular mouth jars not the wide-mouth.  And I ran the circle through the Square lattice embossing folder too.

I also created a tag to tie around the button – the D is for dog stamp is punched with the small tag punch and layered with the large tag punch.  The paw print is punched with the 3/4″ circle punch, and the bone is cut out.  They are all threaded on a piece of Linen Thread and tied around the big button.

I filled it with dog treats and now it sits on my counter.  I really like this fabric because the patterns aren’t really Christmas patterns – you can use them for every day projects not just holiday projects.  I can keep this on the counter year round.  And I know Aspen and Magnolia will be happy about that!

If you are checking in on Monika’s Blog Bingo – I finally found my winner on Sunday afternoon.  So it’s time to get a new group started – this time it will be group 4 and here are the players:

  1. Marilyn from NY
  2. D from WA
  3. Cinthia from MA
  4. Susan from Wis.
  5. Peggy from Maryland
  6. Sandi from MI
  7. Ruth from CT
  8. Ola from Indiana
  9. Sue from MS
  10. Cristy from TX
  11. Judy from CA
  12. Jeanette from GA
  13. Amy from MN
  14. Cinda from GA
  15. Patty from FL
  16. Kim from NJ

I will email Bingo cards for Round 4 to all of you and the first Bingo piece will be called on Tuesday 9/28.  I really like how everyone is from all over the US!  Isn’t it fun?  Thanks for playing along.  I’ll have an updated post with all the rules when we start on Tuesday.

Have a wonderful Monday!

D is for Dog and C is for Cat

I’m back with my post for today – again sorry I didn’t get it up sooner – I wasn’t expecting to not have access last night.

This month my hands-on class was “Love Your Pets” and we focused on projects featuring cats and dogs. You might recall the dog and cat cards that I designed for our visit to the Ronald McDonald House – I decided to use that same card design for this class but step it up just a little bit.  Click here to see the RMHC post.

These cards use a Crumb Cake card base, a layer of Baja Breeze card stock and Elegant Soiree Designer Series paper.  The circles are cut with the Big Shot Die-cutting machine using the Circles #2 die.  The images are stamped in Soft Suede ink on the Very Vanilla circles.

For the Dog card I added Linen Thread around his collar.  The easiest way to do this is use a paper piercer to put a small hole at each side of the dog’s collar.  Then I use a floss threader – the kind your orthodontist or dentist gives you to help get floss through tight places or around braces – pull the linen thread through the hole with the threader and then tie in the front.

A peek at the inside – I had the paw prints “walking” around the inside of the card.

The cat card is basically the same layout but turned in the other direction.

For the cat I added a small rhinestone to her collar where the tag is on the stamped image.

And the linen thread around the collar.

Isn’t she a cute cat with her new fancy collar and tag?

I’m happy with how these cards turned out.  Next week I’ll be going to the Baltimore regional and I still need swaps so I’ve decided to make some more of these for my some of my swaps.

No  Bingo Winner emails yet – so its time to pull another Bingo piece – here we go…..
