A Champagne Toast

Well today is a color challenge day at Create with Connie & Mary.  And I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to do with just these two colors – Very Vanilla and Champagne Glimmer!  I got out the paper and thought now what ink am I going to use!

2012 Create Thursday-010

I was a little concerned about what to do for this color challenge with no ink choices.  Then I remembered that we have Champagne Shimmer Paint.  And I recently purchased the Happy Hour stamp set so I thought I could use the champagne glass in that set.  But doing the whole glass in the shimmer paint was really light so instead I decided to add just a little bit of one other color (Soft Suede) – it’s just a hint to outline my glasses.  The champagne on the inside is the shimmer paint.

The card is Very Vanilla and then I have a strip of the Champagne glimmer paper – scallopped on one side.  I added some Very Vanilla Seam Binding around the card.  Then a punched circle stamped with the champagne glasses and “cheers!”.  I also took the shimmer paint and sponged it around the edges of the circle.  And the entire card is sprtized with a mixture of rubbing alcohol and the shimmer paint so it sparkles.  here is a closer look –

I have to tell you I was really happy with how the whole card turned out!  This would be a great wedding card of New Year card – what do you think?  What can you create with these two colors?  Have fun playing along.

Quick and Easy Christmas Card

This is a quick and easy Christmas card – or really a card for any occasion.  You need some Designer Paper, a coordinating ribbon, matching card stock and ink, a stamp set with the appropriate greeting and then a set that has something like a swirl or spray of foliage.  Here is what I am talking about –

easy-christmas

For this card I used the Snow Festival Designer Series Paper – the colors in it are Soft Suede (my card base), Cherry Cobbler (mat layer), Gumball Green (ribbon and ink), Whisper White (stamped layer), plus Primrose Petals and Baja Breeze.  Cut a piece of designer paper for the bottom, stamp a greeting and the little spray of leaves on the top, tie the ribbon around.  Add the layer to the front of the card base and ta-da a quick card.

Don’t need a Christmas card – then change the designer paper and the greeting – I made this same card layout with several other papers and color combinations and used it as a birthday and a thank you.  The Just Believe stamp set isn’t Christmas but it worked on this card – but you could look through your stash and see what else you had to add some color right there.  Or if you have a larger/longer greeting you wouldn’t even need anything else stamped on there.  Another thought is to use a punch – a flower or something else that coordinates with the feel of your card.

I originally received a card with this layout as a swap and thought it was so simple and versatile that I have used it several times throughout the last 6 months.  So get busy making some quick last minute Christmas cards.

I ordered cards that I created in My Digital Studio – that will go to our family mostly – it has updates on what the boys have done this year along with photos.  It looks like those will be here at the end of this week so I’ll be getting those in the mail on Saturday (that’s the plan).  I better go buy some more stamps so I can send out hand stamped cards too.

Have a great day!

Create Glitter Snowflake

It is time for a new Thursday challenge at Create with Connie & Mary.  It seems like it has been a long time – but it has really just been two weeks.  I hope you enjoyed the double challenge – the shaped card using the sketch.  But now it is time for a new one and this week is a color challenge – Wisteria Wonder, Baja Breeze, Silver Glimmer.

The only think I could think of was snowflakes.  So I made some silver glimmer snowflakes and took a card I had made a couple of weeks ago and modified it to fit this color challenge.  I originally saw a similar card on Pinterest and then on Heather Summer’s blog.

The card base is Baja Breeze.  I cut strips of Whisper White and embossed them with the Snow Flurry embossing folder – and I actually go to use my new Texture Boutique Embosser – which Stampin’ Up! briefly had for sale – but they sold out so quickly – I do hope they get more in so everyone else can buy one too.  After they were embossed I cut the ends to turn them into flags and attached them to the card base.  I stamped the Christmas Blessings in Wisteria Wonder.  I cut snowflakes with the Big Shot and the Silver Glimmer paper.  The top one was colored with the Wisteria Wonder Stampin’ Write Marker (I’m not positive that I like that – I think I should have left it silver).  I layered all the snowflakes and put the Wisteria Wonder brad through the center and then finally added a bit of Baja Breeze Seam Binding ribbon behind it.
Finally I decided to get my Silver smooch and spray the whole card to give it more glimmer.  It really doesn’t look good in the picture – it looks better in person – but I’m just not much of a glimmer girl so maybe I should have done without.
In any case this is my color challenge card for this week.

Christmas Cheer

Have you seen the sale list this week?  There are some great deals on there.  Including the stamp set called Happy Hour  – it is on sale for 25% off during the Online Extravaganza.   And I have it on my order.  But until I get it here so I can create with it I do have one card idea to show you.  I participated in a WOW Christmas Card swap just recently and one of the creations used that set.  The card was made by Carol Snow.

I love the little rhinestones in the glass for the ice!!  Isn’t that the greatest idea?

This is one of those sets that you can use for many occasions all year long and I didn’t even realize it had the candy cane as part of the set but it does.  Here is a picture of all the images.

It is a fun party set so add it to your list while it is on sale!

It’s time for a 2 week double challenge

Are you ready?

This week’s Thursday challenge at Create with Connie & Mary is a 2 week double challenge!  First it’s a sketch challenge and second we have been challenged to create a shaped card using one of Stampin’ Up!’s Big Shot dies or framelits.

So with that in mind – what was I going to make?  That took me a while to figure out.  I finally found some inspiration on Pinterest and here is my card for the 2 week double challenge –

It’s not a very big card – we have a 3-1/2″ circle die and a 3″ circle die and that’s what I used.  I think I need to make an envelope for it but I haven’t done that yet.    The card base is Basic Black and I started by cutting a regular sized card and scored it in half.  Then I put that on the 3-1/2″ circle die so that on the side with the fold it was inside the cutting blade – that keeps the front and back connected.  Cut Whisper White with the 3″ circle die – cut two so one can go on the inside.  The one on the front is then run through with the dots embossing folder.  I actually sponged a little bit across the dots and around the edge of the front circle.

The Itty Bitty Banner fit perfectly on this card since it was pretty small.  I cut an extra banner in black and layered it behind to create a shadow.  I tied two golf tees together with the Basic Black ribbon and then put them on the card front with mini glue dots.

I hope you can see the sketch in this card – the two tees are the two strips going down the left side of the card.  The bitty banner is the greeting.  The bow around the tees is the “flower” on the card.

So who is going to get this card – I was planning to give it to Greg for his birthday which is quickly approaching but we were just invited over to celebrate his golfing-buddies birthday on Friday – so it just might go to him instead.  I guess that means I better make another one.

Stampin’ Up! Supplies:
