Happy Birthday Dots

Every month I have a Card Maker’s Class.  I usually have it near the end of the month so that everyone can come and make the cards they need for the following month.  There are a variety of cards to choose from usually 12 or more.  The class fee includes 6 cards and the envelopes.  And you get to choose – make 6 of the same card, pick 3 and make 2 of each, make 6 different ones, what ever combination you want.  If you still have time you can make extra’s for a flat per card charge.

I add several new cards each month and the designs usually stay around for 2 or 3 months at a time.  So if you don’t get to make one you want chances are it will be available for you to make the next month.  Here is one of the card choices that I had in June.

I used the Dots Decorative mask and a sponge dauber to create the background of polka dots.  Stamped and cut the balloon from Celebrate Today and layered with a variety of banners.  When you want to punch a banner that is thinner than the 1″ guide on the Triple Banner Punch – turn the punch over when you insert the strip and position it in the right spot by eye-balling it.  You can change up the colors or use one of the other words in the set to make this card work for other occasions.

Here is the supply list.

Happy 4th of July

I hope you have a wonderful day with your family & friends celebrating Independence Day!  I just got home from the airport and brought Kyle home.  I’m thrilled to have everyone under one roof again for the next week.

It’s time for a patriotic card featuring Real Red, Night of Navy and Whisper White, The layout of this card comes from a card featured in our demonstrator magazine – Stampin’ Success.  It was a completely different color scheme but the stamp set and layout worked for this patriotic card.

The card base is Real Red.  Then I have a layer of Whisper White card stock and used the Stripes decorative Mask and a Sponge Dauber to add the red stripes to it.  All the stars are from the Be the Star stamp set and all are stamped in Night of Navy ink.  The larger stars were die cut with the coordinating Star Framelits.  The stamp set and framelits are available as a bundle for a 15% savings!

I’ve started saving all the little strips I end up with after cutting the layers for the front of the card.  I have a bunch stored in a bucket on my craft table and then pull them out when I need to for adding a greeting on a card like this one.  Here I used the And Many More stamp set for the word celebrate.  To create the little flag at the end you can use the new Triple Banner Punch.  When you want to use a strip narrower than the 1″ guide just flip the punch over and position your strip before you punch it.

Finish with some Whisper White Baker’s Twine and Rhinestones.  I hope you like this Red, White and Blue Card.

Share the Fun: Six-Sided Sampler

I’m going to share another sample out of the catalog with you today.  On page 105 in the Stampin’ Up! catalog is a pretty card made with the Six-Sided Sampler stamp set and Hexagon punch – which happens to be one of the new bundles offered in the catalog.

six-sided-sampler-case

I did make a couple of changes – instead of using Pool Party like they did in the catalog I used Mint Macaron.  I only did that because the class that I had this card for I was already using Pool Party in another place and decided it would be better to have a different color.  And actually to me the sample in the catalog looks like they used Basic Gray which is not available any more so my card I used Tip Top Taupe and also Sahara Sand.

Can you see the two other changes I made?  I used a strip of Tip Top Taupe instead of the Silver Glimmer paper and used pearls on my butterfly instead of rhinestones.

I think this is a pretty card.  Stamp all of the hexagon images and punch them out.  I put the center row of three on my card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then positioned the other two but glued those flat.  I added the strip and the butterfly.

Oh one more thing – the sample is a solid white card – probably using the new Thick White Card stock – which is super nice!  I didn’t use it here on this card instead putting it on a Mint Macaron base.  But this week I’ve made a couple of cards using the thick white as a base and it is nice!

Thanks for stopping in.  I’ll come back later and add in the supply list. My stamp club is coming so I need to get ready for them.  Oh by the way I’m doing this post on my new computer!

Paper Pumpkin Wall Flower

How did you like the June Paper Pumpkin Kit?  I think it’s adorable and I love the stamp set that came with it.  It seems to me that this kit gave us both feminine and masculine cards – which is nice.  And the lined envelopes are always a treat.  For me I ended up cutting a piece off of the end of each liner – you can’t see it way down in the bottom of the envelope anyway and that gave me some other pieces of patterned paper to use for other projects.  Each month I try to create an alternate card idea using the stamps and ink from the kit and I include that in my monthly Card Maker’s Class.  My Paper Pumpkin subscribers that attend this class can make this card as an extra freebie!

PP-wall-flower2

My card for the June Kit features the cute flower and one of the greetings. I wanted to pair it with some other products and decided to use the brand new Brick Wall embossing folder.  It is going to be a fun product and it’s a new size – 6″ x 6″ – so you have the option to emboss in either direction on your card front.  These wide folders won’t fit through the Embossing Boutique that we used to sell – you will have to use it in the Big Shot so it is wide enough.

PP-wall-flowerI added my brick wall embossed Whisper White card stock onto a piece of Tip Top Taupe card stock that I cut for my card base.  The flower is stamped on Watermelon Wonder card stock with Black memento ink and had cut.  The stem is a die cut from the Flower Flair Framelits and cut out of Cucumber Crush card stock.  I stamped my greeting on Crushed Curry strip that was punched with the Triple Banner Punch – you gotta have it, I don’t think I have used a punch as much as I have used this one in the few weeks I’ve had it, seriously not kidding.

I finished the card with some Linen Thread tied around in a bow and a Crushed Curry Designer button added to the center of the flower. I love my linen thread and have it on my next order cause I’m running low – gasp!

It’s a fun card and a fun Paper Pumpkin kit.  I wonder what the July kit is going to be?  If you want one you have to join before July 10th to get that one.  And by the way once you are a subscriber you can buy past kits, so if you love this June kit – once it becomes available you can add that to any Stampin’ Up! order that you place.  The refill is available now and hopefully the full kit will be added in the next couple of weeks.

Meet Mint Macaron

I had plans to start something new on Fridays called Share The Fun.  That is what the front of the new Stampin’ Up! catalog says and my idea was to share a card from the catalog.  In really old catalogs they used to have a list of supplies for every project that was shown in the catalog.  In more recent catalogs it was no longer printed as part of the catalog but was available as a pdf for us to access.  And currently we just have the samples in the catalog without the supply list (unless you look at the You Can Make It ideas those show you the supplies).  I often have people ask what was used to make a particular sample.  So my idea is to try to recreate some of those samples so I can give you a list of the supplies and maybe some instructions too.  Originally I planned to copy them exactly but when I was working on this card I opted to make a few changes – one main reason is I didn’t have one of the stamp sets that they used.  So let’s just say sometimes I’ll make a variation of the sample in the catalog.

mint-birthday-2For my In-Color class the other week I wanted a card that showcased the Mint Macaron color.  When I looked through the catalog I would always return to the card on page 16 – it was simple, clean and very pretty and soft.  It had just a hint of the Mint Macaron.  I decided to use that idea for my class but wanted a bit more Mint Macaron by using that for my card base instead of Very Vanilla like the one in the catalog.  I also had to change the stamp set since I didn’t have One Big Meaning.

Mint-BirthdayHere you can see what I came up with.

  • I used Mint Macaron for the card base instead of Very Vanilla
  • I added the Typeset Specialty Designer Series paper – it’s torn along the top edge and stamped along the bottom edge with the Honeycomb image from Butterfly Basics – to keep the color light stamp off on scratch paper first.
  • My Very Vanilla layer is stamped with the flower from Butterfly Basics – the catalog card looks a bit lighter so I think they may have stamped off first
  • I used the Host stamp set called Happy Birthday, Everyone for my card and stamped Memento Black Ink
  • I tied the Linen Thread around my layer – I just put mine in a different place because of where I did my stamping
  • I finished with the Mint Macaron blossom just like they did
  • They also added some Pearls which I opted not to do
  • Put the layer on the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals

Now you can go make this card – switch out the stamp sets or even the colors for something else and make several variations.

Hello Watermelon Wonder

Last week I started sharing the cards from my Hands On Stamping Class introducing the new In-Colors.  We met Cucumber Crush and now we are going to say hi to Watermelon Wonder.  The two of them go together very well and were perfect for this card.

So-sweet-watermelon2I used both colors to create a slice of watermelon!  Yum!

I stamped with my Gorgeous Grunge stamp set – the lines on the watermelon rind and the texture for the inside of the watermelon.  I added seeds – they are the little candle flame from the Cupcake Punch.

So-sweet-watermelonA little bit of washi tape along the bottom of the card – that’s from the Cherry On Top collection.  And then the new lace ribbon in Watermelon Wonder.  So sweet!
