This week for the Utah Diva’s Color Challenge I made a Baby card. I don’t seem to make very many of those. Most of my friends are beyond the baby years and we are all dealing with teenagers! I’ve decided there are also the terrible teens – not that my kids are terrible actually they are really good kids but they just enjoy aggravating me! So I don’t really have a need for a baby card – I’m not sure that I can even think of anyone I know that is pregnant right now – but I have a card in case I need it!

It just seemed like such pretty little girl colors. I have all boys so I didn’t use pinks for decorating baby rooms, but wouldn’t this be a pretty color combo for a little girls room. I ended up using both of the hostess sets in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog – A Slice of Life and Something to Celebrate. I water-colored the little baby clothes and cut the out to hang on the “clothes line”.

Feb 12, 2011 | Big Shot, Cards, Occasions Mini 2011, Valentine's Day |
I loved the scrapbook layout I showed you yesterday so much that I decided to take the Top Note design and turn it into a Valentine card. It works both ways sometimes you see a part of a scrapbook page that you want to make into a card and other times you see a card and think that would work perfectly on a scrapbook page….
It is basically the same element as I had on the scrapbook page and I put it on a Riding Hood Red card base. I stamped the bottom edge of the card with the little heart flowers and spritzed it a little with the Color Spritzer but you can’t really see it in this picture.
For the inside I added a Very Vanilla card stock and stamped the heart flowers on it with the Cherry Cobbler ink. “Sweet Valentine” is from the Level 2 Hostess set called Something to Celebrate in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini catalog.
We got this set for free at the Leadership Conference – that was a surprise!
You could really make this card without having a specific Valentine stamp set. Use die cut or punched hearts. Find Love or an appropriate greeting in one of our many stamp sets. I hope you get inspired to create something this weekend for Valentine’s Day if you haven’t already done it.

Feb 11, 2011 | Big Shot, Occasions Mini 2011, Scrapbook Pages, Valentine's Day |
I love the scrapbook layout that I made for my January Scrapbook Class!! I love the colors, I love the stamp sets, I love the layout, I love the accents! Now I just need to find some pictures to put on it. Yes sometimes I just create my pages because I like the pages not because I have pictures to put on them.
But this doesn’t need to be a Valentine page. It could be for a wedding or anniversary or in loving memory of someone (I was actually thinking of my friend Lisa when I was making this and that is what she needed). And someone else used it as a Things I Love page and she plans to add all the things that she loves to it.
The layout was an idea I saw in a scrapbook magazine and I stretched it to create a 2-page spread. Often the scrapbook pages in the magazines are single pages and for my scrapbook classes I like to do 2-page layouts so the test is always to see how to take a single page and stretch it to two and also how to convert it to a 100% Stampin’ Up! page.
I used the Love Letters Designer Series paper and took my color combination from it – Riding Hood Red, Basic Black and Very Vanilla. I stamped my hearts from the Heart to Heart stamp set and they weren’t quite as bright as I wanted and I didn’t have any Riding Hood Red ribbon either. So I looked at what I did have and decided to add Cherry Cobbler to the color palette and I LOVE it! I restamped the hearts in Cherry Cobbler and the popped so much more. I had Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding ribbon which worked perfectly and I die-cut and punched all my hearts from Cherry Cobbler card stock.
The other stamp sets that I used were Valentine Defined and Word Play. The Big Shot dies that I used on this layout were the Top Note, Hearts & Brackets, the Simple Alphabet, and the Two Tags die. I also used the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder – can use see where? The easy one to see is the tag from the Two Tags die. But look at the Top Note – what I did for this is glued the pieces of Designer Series paper to a piece of Very Vanilla card stock – then cut out the Top Note – then embossed it with the Vintage Wallpaper folder. It is easier to see in real-life but if you look closely you can see the bottom left (which is just the vanilla card stock) and the top right, the other papers are harder to see in the photo.
All the Vanilla card stock is sponged with Crumb Cake ink which gives it an antique look. I’m so glad they gave us this color ink – it is fast becoming a favorite for me for sponging.
I have to go buy paint for my new sunroom – all the sheet rock went up this week and next week they will paint – I am planning on So Saffron for the color. I showed Greg the colors on my color coach and he wanted to know what paint store the samples were from! I said these are my Stampin’ Up! colors and the paint store will just have to match it. They are working on framing the new deck and then Greg and Tyler are going to finish it – maybe this weekend – we’ll see how fast they work. Then we need to pick out tiles for the floor which Greg’ also plans to do himself. Hopefully by next week it will be basically done except for what Greg is doing himself and all these people will be gone. The rest of the day I’m finishing up Valentine’s for my boys! See you later.

I realized that Valentine’s Day is going to be here in the blink of an eye and I haven’t shared all my projects with you yet. So I better get busy with that….
This project was part of my Valentine class that I had in January. It uses the new Petal Cone die for the Big Shot that is in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini catalog. The cone is cut from Pretty In Pink card stock – you cut two pieces from the die to form the cone shape. Before assembling the cone shape each piece was embossed with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder. For my Big Shot I ran this through with no tabs on my platform – this embossing folder embosses so deeply that it was cutting through the folds of my cone so I removed one of the tabs to take away some of the pressure.
I also cut 4 of the half scallops from some of the Real Red Patterns paper which is part of the Love Patterns Designer paper pack – it is still available through Feb. 14th. These scallops were glued on each of the four sides of the petal cone and then glued down to the outside of the box.
On the front I added Real Red satin ribbon and a Vintage brad – this is a cheater bow – you don’t really have to tie it. I learned this from another demo in my group. You start with folding your ribbon like a “cancer bow” – do you know what I’m talking about – it is just the loop with the two tails hanging down. Once you have that shape you take the center of the loop and bring it down to where the two tails cross. Then take the brad and wrap it around the whole thing at that spot and tighten it to hold the bow pieces in place. Sorry I don’t have pictures of that – but it takes two hands to hold the bow and the brad and that doesn’t leave me a hand for the camera. I then took the brad through the scallop edge which holds that front flap down.
The two side flaps have a jumbo eyelet added and then the Real Red Satin ribbon is pulled through and knotted to create the handle. These would also be cute May Day baskets – just change the colors!
Oh and then on the bottom I added some of the red Glitter paper hearts – the Full Heart punch and then the small heart punch – punch two of each and glue them back to back with the white crochet thread in between. Pull the thread through the tip of the cone – in reality this is easier to do before you assemble the cone – but sometimes you don’t think of these things until later so I used the little floss threader to pull it through the tip and then either tie a big knot or use your paper piercer to stick a glue dot down in the bottom to hold it secure.
I filled my cone with chocolate kisses but the boys have been eating them so there are only a few left inside right now. I hope you like this little valentine treat – make one for each of the kids and hang them on their doors for Valentine morning!

Good morning everyone! I think our rain has stopped – we had a little bit of snow/sleet on Thursday but it stopped and I was able to head out to a class at Tammy’s house that night. The rain is not helping the work that is going on at our house. We are having our old screened porch/deck converted to a large sunroom/small deck. The construction has been going on the days in between the bad weather – I’m hoping for nice weather all week so they can get it done. And hopefully all the construction isn’t keeping my birds away. I’m would expect to see them already shopping for bird houses to nest in but I haven’t seen much activity. It might be because the weather has been colder than normal or a combination of the two. This year I have added the woodpecker house and I have one more house to add but I haven’t put that one out yet. I’ll keep you posted as soon as the action starts.
On to my project for today. These are some cute cards featuring Sale-A-Bration stamps and accessories. I have been using these cards in some of my classes/workshops the last couple of weeks and everybody loves them.
The idea for this card came from the Stampin’ Success magazine that Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators receive each month. It is packed with ideas and articles for us to read. I decided to use the layout and then make more than just the one card that they showed but create more cards using the other stamps in the Punch Bunch stamp set. I gave everyone at my classes the choice of what they wanted to make. Each card was unique as every person used a different stamp and selection of the die cuts from the Ice Cream Parlor pack.
The card base is Old Olive. At the bottom is a die-cut strip, then above that is a piece of the double-sided Designer Series paper – some people chose to show the dotted side and others the pink side. Above that is a piece of the Ice Cream parlor ribbon – this ribbon has flowers printed on one side so when you tie it in a knot make sure you twist the end so the printed side shows. Stamp the image and punch out with the coordinating punch and add it to the front with Stampin’ Dimensionals. See below for the instructions on creating the pierced circle and do that before you add all the die-cuts and the buttons. One trick that you might want to know about the die-cuts – if you want to pop them up with Stampin’ Dimensionals – stick them to your jeans first to remove some of the adhesive on the back and then add the dimensionals to pop them up.
Do you see the pierced circle in the background? I love that idea but I thought there is no way I can make an even circle like that. I remembered that Stampin’ Up! used to have the brass embossing templates and many of those had piercing patterns on them too. We don’t sell those anymore so I wanted to come up with a way to do the same thing with what we do have. It just so happened I had one of the large die-cut scallop circles lying on my craft table and that gave me this idea. So here are the instructions on how to create a pierced circle:
Step 1: cut a die-cut scalloped circle using the Big Shot machine and one of the dies – you can vary the size of your circle by using a different sized scallop circle for your template.

Step 2: Place a piercing mat underneath your card stock and the scallop circle on top. Use a paper piercer and pierce in between each pair of scallops to create a circle – using the scallop keeps the holes evenly spaced.

Step 3: If you want the holes closer together add another hole in between each pair that you punched.
Ta-da! A pierced circle!
How easy was that? I’m going to use this idea on some other cards not that I figured it out and I’m going to take a look at my other dies to see if I can create some other piercing patterns. To save the templates cut them out of the cardboard backer from the Designer Series paper and it will last longer than using a piece of card stock.
Have a fun weekend!

Jan 29, 2011 | Big Shot, Blog Tour, Cards, Demonstrator, Fabric, Occasions Mini 2011 |
Last weekend I had my PAWS team meeting. We covered some business topics, talked and shared about leadership, stamped some great projects, traded swaps and had a lot of fun! I wanted to share some group pictures and our meeting Make&Takes.

Stephanie, Becky, Travice, Cindy, and Lisa
The girls here are working on a petal cone project using the new Petal Cone die from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog.
They had a choice of Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight or Tangerine Tango for their box. The sides were decorated with Designer Series paper and Pom-Pom trim. This project idea actually came from a new site that I joined called the Paper Crafter’s Library.
You can fill the petal cones with candy or other small items. Close up the top with some ribbon for this design.

Fran, Linda, Cindy, Cindy, Christine
In the other room the girls were working on a little card using the Take a Spin stamp set and spinner hands from the Occasions Mini Catalog.
This was a 3×3 birthday card and then has the extra scallop trim on the edge. It will fit in our medium envelopes. Christine is holding her sample up.
The other end of the table is a card that Fran designed using a neat little punching technique to create a fancy frame.
Fran’s card uses a 3×3 inch square of card stock to start creating the border. We did discover that you have to use the old style Eyelet border punch in order for this to work. Center the Eyelet border punch on the center of each side of the square and punch – it leaves the four corners and a thin edge on the outside. The new style border punch does not leave this edge. Then punch all four sides again with the Scallop Trim border punch – this one is the new style. It punches the fancy trim on all four edges that you see on the edges of this square. The stamp set we used was Cute by the Inch for the center square.

Monika, Marie
Jenn also brought a Make&Take project along with a bunc
h of other Valentine treat ideas that she shared with everyone. I forgot to take a picture of her other ideas but here is the little Tag Treat we made.
This little holder is cute for a table – I’ve used this idea before at the holidays and we put little mints, nuggets, or kisses in side the holder. When I use them on a table they become place card holders and I just write names on them.

Jenn
Here is Jenn showing off the other project that we made. Name tags using the new Sew Suite Fabric and the Designer Fabric covered brads in the Stampin’ Up! mini catalog. This idea was shared on stage at the Leadership conference and I thought it would make a great project for our meeting.
To make the tags I used the white card board that comes in the back of the Designer Series paper packs. It was cut using the Two-Tags die and the Big Shot – this is the tag with the scallop circle at one end – it is covered by the flower in the picture. The flower is three 1/2″ by 6″ pieces of fabric. The pieces are folded over and a Fabric Covered brad is pushed through the center. The flower is attached to a piece of matching card stock that was punched with the Scallop Circle punch. Add the flower to the tag and write your name on the front. On the back glue a pin back so that you can attach it to your shirt. I used Crystal Effects for my sample and allowed it to dry overnight, but in the meeting we used a hot glue gun. At the next meeting I hope that everyone will wear their name tag so that we know who they are!
That was a look at our meeting and our M&Ts. Our next team meeting will be in March and I’ll be adding the information to my Stampin’ Connection PAWS group in February. Contact me if you would like information about joining my team or if you are a demonstrator and would like information about coming to my meeting.
Have a great day!
