Ryan’s birthday was last week – he is my baby – well he isn’t really a baby anymore – he turned 14 years old!  He has been playing a lot of golf lately so his birthday gifts were pretty much golf themed.  According to Greg he is quite the good golfer for his age and gets to play occasionally with Greg and his friends.

With the golf theme in mind I used one of the new single stamps from the Stampin’ Up! catalog.  It is called On the Green.

I combined it with some retired products to make his birthday card.  Do you remember the Stampin’ Up! wrapping paper that we had one time.  I still have some of the dots and stripes and I like to use those for birthdays. So I wrapped Ryan’s present with the paper and then used a piece on the front of his card.  I stuck with the colors – Old Olive, Riding Hood Red, and Bashful Blue.  Riding Hood Red is one of the old In-Colors that has returned.

I stamped the image twice – once in Riding Hood Red for the base and then a second time in Old Olive and cut a couple of things out to layer on top.  I added some of the striped Bashful Blue ribbon which did retire – darn – I liked that striped ribbon.

Here is a picture of Ryan with his cake.  And here is the cake story…. I asked Ryan what kind of cake he wanted and his reply was a store bought cake (normally I make the birthday cakes) and he wanted a Chocolate Cake with Chocolate icing.  So I believed him.  And went to the store and looked at the cakes.  It was late and I had to choose from what they already had made – I had the lady search through all the cakes to find me a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting – and no flowers or girly decorations.  Apparently that was not easy – there was one.  So I bought it and took it home.  There were two surprises – one was that he was joking and didn’t want a store bought cake – but it was too late to change now.  And second when we cut the cake – it wasn’t even Chocolate!  It was a yellow cake with the wrong label on the outside.  So Ryan didn’t even eat any – no one else really did either.  One small corner is missing and I do plan to take it back to the store and let them know I was disappointed and so was he.

Sunday was a productive day for my convention preparation:

Shoebox swap – 49 cards – DONE

UDI card swap – 19 cards – DONE

UDI 3-D swap – I am making the second one since I want to send the first one to Stampin’ Up! for a contest.  I am almost done with the second one – all the pieces are there and it is more than half way put together.

General swap 1 – 25 card fronts – All DONE

General swap 2 – 25 card fronts – All DONE

General swap 3 – 25 card fronts – I have an idea in mind, I just need to work on it – this may not get done at all.

General swap 4 – 25 card fronts – I realized I started cutting for a swap, used part of it for my STARZ swap this weekend, but I think I want to redesign this because I wasn’t completely happy with it, so I need to work with what I already cut

Friend gifts – planning to make some amount of something to give to friends I see

Roommate gifts – 3 – designed

Thanks for stopping by – I’ll be leaving soon for convention.  You can keep visiting my blog while I’m gone.  I plan to schedule posts of all of my swaps.
