It’s Graduation weekend at Purdue University.  And my youngest son, Ryan, will be graduating with his Bachelor’s degree on Friday night.  We are traveling to Indiana to be there.  The last one is done with college.  It seems like yesterday he was just starting school.  He has big plans for the summer – working for Facebook – and then back to school for one more year to finish a Master’s degree.  Saturday there will be a little graduation party for Ryan and his girlfriend Emily at her parents house.  I offered to make some table decorations.  We are driving up so I thought I could carry these with us in the car.  I’m hoping they travel well.

I have the wine boxes from Sam’s to take them in – you know the ones with the sections so the bottles to clang together.  I’ve been saving and collecting all different kinds of wine bottles the last couple of months.  I had friends save some for me too.  Then I washed and removed all the labels and foil.  I bought gold spray paint to paint them – I spent last week doing all that.  I was hoping to use the Stampin’ Up! number framelits dies but they were a bit too small for this project.  Instead I printed out large numbers on some paper and then cut them out.  Next I traced them on the back of some Gold Glimmer Paper and then cut them out by hand.  I did two sets – and I picked a really basic font so they weren’t bad to hand cut.

I tried just some long wooden skewers but they were too short so I found some balloon sticks at that were longer.  They were white so I also spray painted those gold.  I used the mini glue dots to attach my glitter numbers to the top of each stick.  To finish each number I used a combination of sequins and ribbon to tie to the base of each number.  I had to go to my retired stash because I didn’t have enough ribbon to do all 8 bottles.

I hope the kids and the party guests like these decorations.  These would also work for New Year’s celebration or an anniversary celebration.  Just adjust the numbers as needed for your event.

Supply List

  • Gold Glimmer Paper (retiring)
  • Gold Mini Sequin Trim
  • Black Mini Sequin Trim
  • Basic Black Shimmer Ribbon
  • Mini Glue Dots

I also used some gold cord and some gold ribbon that were previously retired.  We do have a gold cord coming in the new catalog that starts in June.  And a new Gold Glimmer paper coming too – they made some changes to it so the current ones are retiring.

I can’t wait to see my boy graduate!  He was awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Assistant award a couple of weeks ago.  And he was on the Dean’s list again.  I’m a proud mama for sure.

Thanks for visiting today.
