Jan 24, 2014 | My Digital Studio, Scrapbook Pages, Stampin' Up! Events |
I’ve decided to play along with the MDS Monday Challenge – today is the last day to add a project to the challenge from the 13th. MDSM49 – We’re scrapping – click here for the challenge details. It was a sketch and I do enjoy working with sketches. I ended up playing along because when we got to the hotel yesterday there was no internet service in the room – they were doing maintenance they said until early evening – when we went to bed around 10:30 there was still no internet – I didn’t actually check it this morning. Now we are at the airport waiting to fly back home – and there is free internet here. So instead of working on a blog post and doing other things I played in My Digital Studio. And a sketch is always a good place to start.

I decided to use some pictures from my Leadership trip earlier this month. It was a great trip and so much more fun when I was able to spend it with my two friends Diane and Linda. Traveling together, rooming together, learning together and enjoying the manager’s reception together – I’m so glad I had both of the these ladies with me. I knew I had some photos of the three of us together – a whole bunch from our last night in the hotel – when we used the tripod and the timer setting on my phone – but they may not have appreciated me sharing most of those – so I picked one good one and combined it with others of us from throughout the Leadership event.

As you can see I turned the sketch on its side – I need to be a little different right? This one was actually pretty easy because there is a photo template page that has 5 photos lined up like the sketch – so I inserted that to begin with. then I grouped the photo boxes and rotated them on the page to get my position. I created a new photo box with a 7″ width and a 2″ height and placed it on top of the one that I rotated – copied and added 4 more and then deleted the rotated ones – if I had used those my pictures would have been rotated the wrong way.
I added a background and some overlays, added the round tab punch to the ends of the photos, some staples, and text for the titles. Added a title stamp in the corner.
Signing off at the airport – we should be boarding soon and then flying across the country back to Georgia.

Jan 19, 2014 | My Digital Studio, Stamp, Scrap, & Create Retreat, Stampin' Up! Events |
Put the Spotlight on MDS (My Digital Studio) was the name of the Share Fair Class that I taught at leadership. When Stampin’ Up! called a few months ago to ask if I would be a presenter – I was completely surprised, nervous, scared, and excited. I wasn’t sure I could do it but didn’t want to say no either. Then I kept reminding myself that over the years I had been taking little steps doing presentations in front of people and this was the next step. I would do it!
Ideas ran through my head about what to share – and of course I knew exactly what to share. Over the last year or 2 the MDS offerings that I have had were the MDS Intro Class, the MDS Digi Crop Nites and then the addition of the Creative Retreat that included an MDS project in the Make&Takes. My friend and fellow demonstrator Cindy works with me on these events – and that was one of the things I told everyone is to find a friend and do these events together. It works perfect for us. I wish Cindy had been there with me to do the presentations but she wasn’t able to attend Leadership this year. We are planning our next Intro Class for February – the exact date I’ll post as soon as it is final. The Digi Crops we are having twice a month right now – those dates are on my website and FB page. And the next Creative Retreat is going to be in May – save the date May 15 (evening start) – May 18. More details will be coming later.
Wednesday after I arrived in Houston I went to the convention center for a rehearsal. Got over there just in time and realized I didn’t have any of my notes! They were all in the hotel room. I guess that is how it was meant to be – I went through the rehearsal without them. I think I missed a few things but overall I covered everything. Then I put together my display board.
Thursday was the day of the presentation and I found my class sign outside the room. And then waited on my time to start – I was in the second session of classes. I didn’t have much focus during the first set so I pretty much missed them all. Everyone should be doing Webinars over the next month or so and I’m hoping to catch all of those. I do still have that to do – mine will be in late February. So if you missed the class you can catch the webinar.
I got a little more nervous when I found out I was following Holly Linford – the MDS guru at Stampin’ Up! – and then found out my helper was not there. My replacement helper turned out to be Brian Billing – the Demonstrator Training Manager! I got miked up and he introduced me and I did my first presentation. I went for the full 20 minutes. I didn’t stop to answer questions and it was a good thing I didn’t. In my 3rd presentation someone asked a question and I tried to answer – I totally lost track of where I was! Yikes. So if you were in my class and you had a question I wasn’t trying to be rude and ignore you but I was afraid of what would happen if I stopped and while I thought I could handle it by the third time – I was wrong. You can ask me now or I’m pretty sure during the webinar that you can write in with questions too.
Maybe you couldn’t tell but I was nervous and so HOT! I told Brian after the first one I needed a fan. I got water. I could have taken off my vest but was afraid the back of my shirt was wet! Seriously not good. This is what I looked like after I was done.
Thumbs up – red faced and smiling! But I did it!
At the end of leadership on Saturday I went back to take down my display board and they let us keep our name signs.
The only problem for me was that I brought 2 small suitcases this time and neither one was long enough for the sign to fit in! So luckily my friend and roommate Linda had a big suitcase and she was able to bring it home for me. Thanks Linda! She was also the one taking most of the pictures for me. Thanks Linda!
Thanks for listening to me today – I intended to say that at the end of my presentation but I think I forgot! But thank you if you came to listen to my presentations – I hope you found something to be helpful.

Jan 15, 2014 | Stampin' Up! Events |
One of the best things about a Stampin’ Up! event is seeing old friends and making new friends. Since I’ve joined Stampin’ Up! I have met people from all over the US, Canada and the world and what connects us all together is Stampin’ Up! The Leadership event is smaller than convention and many of my friends weren’t there this year but I did see lots of people and met new people too. I thought I would share some of the pictures that I did get.

STARZ & Friends – Robin, Carol, Wendy, Pearl, Nancy, Libby and Monika.

with Shannon West

dinner with friends – Lisa, Monika, Linda, Diane and Fran

with Brian Pilling – Demonstrator Training Manager
It turned out that Brian was my helper during my Share Fair Presentation! I was not expecting that. I’ll share more about my presentation in another post. I was so nervous that I was boiling hot and sweaty – I wanted a big fan in the room. What a terrible picture of me. And when Brian stepped out I had a substitute helper – it was Bonnie!

with Bonnie Thurber
Over the few days of Leadership I ran into Shelli – the CEO and Cofounder of Stampin’ Up! several times. She is just the nicest person to talk to. And she looks just perfect – remember back in the fall she had the horse riding accident. This was her first demonstrator event that she has attended since the accident – and she looked great.

selfie with Erica Cerwin
Sitting in my seat waiting on the last General Session to start on Saturday – I found Erica Cerwin sitting right in front of me. She is one of the 2013 Artisan Design Team members. We took a selfie and sent it off to Cindy to say “Hi”.

Diane, Monika, Lisa, Linda
And before we left we found the photo-op props and stopped to get our little group photo. It was an enjoyable event and I can’t wait for convention to get here to see even more friends.
Speaking of convention did you know that if you join my team now you can get your Convention Registration for 2014 for FREE! It was a big announcement that they made on Saturday. And with Sale-A-Bration starting in a few days you can join for $99 and get $150 in product in your starter kit – and its fully customizable – you pick the products that you want. This is an exciting offer and if you want to attend convention with me then join my team – I’d love to have you with me. And as an added bonus anyone that joined since last July 1 (that’s 2013) will also get free registration!! I’m hoping for a big group to go this year. Let me know if you want to go or have questions – I have the answers or will find them.
Thanks for stopping in today!

Jan 14, 2014 | Cards, Occasions Catalog 2014, Paper Pumpkin, Stampin' Up! Events |
When we arrived at the Stampin’ Up! Leadership Conference there was a new surprise for us (well they always have surprises for us). This year we were having Paper Pumpkin Craft Wars!
The details from Stampin’ Up!:
We’re going to put your crafting skills to the test! Paper Pumpkin kits are great on their own,
but what happens when you mix the exclusive stamps with brand new occasions catalog products? Well, that’s what we want you to show us! At the end of the weekend, 20 winners will be selected and each will receive two free past Paper Pumpkin kits and exclusive bragging rights. Plus, the winning projects will be highlighted on the Stampin’ Up corporate blog after leadership! Enter to compete by signing up at the Paper Pumpkin booth.
So of course I signed up (and signed up my roomies Linda and Diane too). We went Friday afternoon to make our creations. We had about 15 minutes. And this is what I came up with –

So do you want to know some of the details –
- The card base was Crumb Cake (we could choose that or Whisper White).
- I used a piece of Whisper White for some stamping – I used the stamps from the July Paper Pumpkin Kit – it was the one with the birthday cake banners. There were 3 background stamps in the kit so I stamped one in each color – Coastal Cabana, So Saffron, and Tangerine Tango.
- I punched two flowers from each stamped image using the new Petite Petals Punch. I ran a marker along the edge of each flower.
- I looked all around for a paper piercer – no luck – we didn’t have one of those to use. So I had to make do with what I had – a paper of paper snips – I folded my flowers in half and cut a tiny slit – then pushed through a piece of the new Gold Baker’s Twine through each pair of flowers – I tied a knot in the front. And also tied at knot at each long end.
- I added the flowers to the card front with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
- I tied all the flower “stems” together with another piece of the Gold Baker’s Twine.
- My stamped greeting is from the June Paper Pumpkin Kit – it was the one with the Hexagon cards.
- At the last minute I decided to add a few of the gold sequins from the Occasions Catalog. Tricky part was getting them to stick – snail and itty bitty bits of Stampin’ Dimensionals was what I ended up using.
Stampin’ Up! picked 20 winners from all the entries. I don’t know how many there were but I would assume a few hundred. As I understand it they will have a corporate blog post featuring all the winning cards. So look for that on Stampinup.com.
And speaking of Paper Pumpkin – we got to see a sneak peak of the upcoming kits and they were really good! You are going to want them and if you have opted out lately you may want to opt in to get February and March kits – just sayin’.
If you haven’t previously joined Paper Pumpkin there is a special for new memberships – join between now and February 10, 2014 and you will get a free pack of 2012-2014 In-color Markers with your welcome kit!

JOIN TODAY – just CLICK HERE – to go to the sign up. And you can see ideas with past kits by visiting my Paper Pumpkin Idea Pinterest Board and I’ll be adding new ideas along with the winning cards from the Craft Wars as they get posted.
And if you want to order from the Occasions Catalog – SHOP HERE.
